NY Jets: Time To Put Up Or Shut Up

By Tyson Rauch

Through nine weeks of the NFL season there has been one thing the New York Jets have been good at…talking. Gang Green has talked about everything from winning championships, to dominating, to beating their rivals. Well after 9 weeks of the season, the Jets stand at 4-4, losers of 4 of their last 5 games. The time has come for the Jets to either put up or shut up.

There is nothing worse than a team that talks the talk, but cannot walk the walk. You want to start talk about making a playoff run? How about stringing together a couple of quality wins before doing so? You want to talk about being a team heading in the right direction? How about playing a complete game without the mental mistakes that are causing you to lose to inferior opponents? You want to stop being called the “Same Old Jets?” Stop playing like them.

The time has come for the New York Jets to put their stamp on the season. Hopefully it is not one that was full of empty promises.

Can anyone else believe that it is already week 10 of the NFL season? I do not think any season goes by as fast as football does. Last week I went 10-3, for a season total of 89-40. Here are this week’s selections:

49ers over the Bears (Thursday night football)- While this is a must-win for both teams, going to take the more physical 49ers team at home. The Bears seem to have lost their swagger, attitude and identity on defense. 49ers 21-17

Falcons over the Panthers- The Panthers had a chance to save their season last week but fell short against the Saints. This week could start the free fall for Carolina. Falcons 24-17

Dolphins over the Buccaneers- While Tampa Bay shocked the world by beating Green Bay last week, they will have no such luck against a feisty, physical Dolphins team. Dolphins 27-10

Vikings over the Lions- Surprise, surprise Brett Favre is nursing an injury… is ESPN staked out at his house yet? The Vikings coming off of a bye spells doom for the Lions regardless of who is playing quarterback. Vikings 31-14

Steelers over the Bengals- Who would have thought that in week 10 the Bengals would be playing in a marquee match-up for first place? While this game will be very close and very physical, it is hard to go against the Steelers at home. Steelers 21-17

Saints over the Rams- This could get ugly early. For fantasy sake can Reggie Bush please score a touchdown or two? Saints 35-7

Titans over the Bills- If Buffalo has any hopes of salvaging their season, they must win on Sunday. Unfortunately they are playing a very motivated Titan team that is going to make life miserable for everyone they play.  Let the T.O. drama begin!  Titans 21-6

Broncos over the Redskins- Washington is just what the doctor ordered for the Denver Broncos; A team in turmoil that has basically mailed in their season. Still cannot believe that Redskin head coach Jim Zorn has not stepped down yet. Broncos 28-10

Chiefs over the Raiders- The entire country should be blacked out from this game. Chiefs 27-17
Cardinals over the Seahawks-This has the makings of an offensive shootout, but in the end the Arizona defense will prevail. Cardinals 31-27

Cowboys over the Packers- It must be November because Cowboy fans are everywhere talking trash. Look for Dallas to take advantage of a Green Bay offense that is prone to turnovers and mistakes. Cowboys 31-24

Eagles over the Chargers- The Chargers have become one dimensional on offense (pass happy) and the Eagles will take advantage with their blitzing schemes. Eagles 28-24

Colts over the Patriots- This has the potential to be one of the highest scoring games of the weekend. Both quarterbacks, Brady and Manning, are playing at high levels while the defenses have struggled at times. Going to take the Colts at home. Colts 34-31

Ravens over the Browns- This will be merely a scrimmage for the Ravens as the Browns are one of the worst teams in football. It is one thing to rebuild a team; it is another to destroy it. Nice job Coach Mangini. Ravens 27-3

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. New York Jets – This is a must win game for both teams as they both enter the week at 4-4. The Jets, losers of 4 of their last 5 games, are coming off of a bye week, while the Jaguars beat Kansas City last week. The key to success for the New York Jets is to shut down the versatile Maurice Jones-Drew. If the Jets can make Jacksonville one-dimensional there is a very good chance that they will win the game. Now will the Jets do that? The football fan in me believes that the Jets will come up with a big time performance and shut down the Jaguars. The cynical Jets fan in me worries that Gang Green will once again find a way to blow the game. Ahhh the joys of being a Jets fan.

I will put on my green colored glasses and give Gang Green one more chance to redeem themselves. Jets 23-17
