NY Jets Draft Two; Leon Washington Traded

The New York Jets 2010 draft is done, unless they make a trade to get back into a later round.  It was a wild day for the Jets and one that changed the direction of the ground game.  Veteran running back Leon Washington who recently signed his tender offer to return to the team was traded to the Seattle Seahawks.  Here is a recap of the moves:

  • Joe McKnight, Round 4 — 114th overall via trade with the Carolina Panthers.  The Jets acquire Leon Washington’s replacement before officially trading Leon Washington.  McKnight who is 5″11, 198lbs played at USC and is considered to be a scatback.  Here is a thread with more information and fan reaction.
  • John Connor, Round 5 — 139th overall via trade with the Seattle Seahawks.  To get this pick the Jets also gave up their 7th rounder and Leon Washington.  Connor, nicknamed The Terminator is a true full back.  Don’t count on him running the ball or running complicated routes but he is a mauler.  He played for Kentucky and stands at 5’11” and weighs in at a strong 246lbs.  Here is some additional information on Connor.

It is sad to think that Leon Washington will no longer be with the New York Jets.  Such an explosive player, so much heart and he was truly fun to watch.  The NFL is a cruel business and the Jets have made the decision to get younger at RB and save some money along the way.
