Braylon Edwards Arrested For Drunk Driving

Shortly after 5am this morning, New York Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards was pulled over and arrested for driving under the influence.  According to Larry Celona from the NY Post:

Jets’ wide receiver Braylon Edwards was busted on a drunken driving charge early this morning, after cops pulled him over on the West Side and found he had double the legal limit of alcohol in his system, cops said.

Edwards, 27, was arrested at 5:15 a.m. and charged with DWI, after cops pulled over his Range Rover at 34th Street and 12th Avenue for having his overly-tinted windows. Police said they smelled alcohol and Edwards blew a 0.16 on a Breathalyzer, or double the state’s legal limit of 0.08, cops said.

A passenger was with Edwards but it doesn’t appear they were charged. Edwards is currently in police custody, and will be arraigned later today.

The New York Jets released this statement:

“We are very disappointed in Braylon’s actions this morning. The Player Protect program is in place for our organization to prevent this situation. Braylon is aware of this program and showed poor judgment,” the Jets said.

“We are reviewing the information with the league and will impose the appropriate disciplinary measures.”

This move by Braylon Edwards is the pinnacle of selfishness.   He is very fortunate that there was no accident and more importantly, no injuries.  That being said he put the Jets in a terrible spot.  Braylon is facing disclplinary action and if he is suspended and already thin wide receiver depth chart just got a whole lot thinner.  Santonio Holmes is suspended for the next two games for his actions in Pittsburgh.

The New York Jets have a PR nightmare on their hands with this coming on the heels of the harrassment allegations against a female reporter.  You can read the fan reaction and tell us what you think in this Braylon Edwards DUI discussion thread.
