New York Jets Training Camp

The story from training camp today was that a multiple player scuffle broke out after running back Joe McKnight threw a football at D’Anton Lynn.  What Joe McKnight may not been aware of was that D’Anton Lynn is the son of NY Jets running back coach Anthony Lynn.  Reports say that up to 20 players were involved in total.  Rex Ryan didn’t seem concerned about the altercation and said he hadn’t spoken to the team about it.  Rex also added…

Alright first off, as far as it being a melee I don’t see that.  Now it is a first, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a sign get knocked over in a fight because it happened on the sideline, but it wasn’t a melee.  Guys weren’t throwing helmets.  Some times when you’re competing and all that stuff, things like that happen.  I think we’ve had enough fights for camp so I don’t expect too many more after this one.

Rich Cimini said it was a big day for the Jets top two draft picks:

DE Quinton Coples (two sacks) and WR Stephen Hill (50-yard TD catch), impressed in practice after disappearing for a few days.

The injuries on offense continue to take their toll on the wide receivers.  Santonio Holmes (rib) and Jeremy Kerley (hamstring) sat out, although the prognosis on both players is good.

LaRon Landry practiced with the first team and Rex Ryan expects him to play in the Jets first preseason game on Friday night against the Cincinnati Bengals.  Yeremiah Bell and LaRon Landry worked together as the starting safeties for the first time in camp.

Brian Costello says the defense dominated:

The defense dominated the day again with both quarterbacks struggling against a ton of pressure. The offensive line is hurting with two starters out. Center Nick Mangold is still in London at the Olympics and right tackle Wayne Hunter is out with a lower back issue.

The defense recorded nine “sacks” in practice. The defenders are not allowed to actually tackle the quarterbacks, so all sacks are based on a judgment the quarterback would not have escaped.

Here is an update on the kicking situation from Jenny Vrentas:
