Jets And Giants Unite Against Mall

American Dream

The Jets and Giants usually don’t always see eye to eye.  Steve Tisch thinks the Jets ruined Tim Tebow’s career, the Jets disagree.  Back in the days before the new stadium, the Jets and Giants had a hard time agreeing over exactly how many port-o-potty’s should be in the parking lot.

These disagreements are all in the past though; the Jets and Giants are united against the American Dream entertainment complex that sits right next to Metlife Stadium.  The teams have filed a lawsuit because they have concerns over game day traffic conestion.

Last month, the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority breathed life back into the American Dream Meadowlands retail and entertainment complex, approving new plans for the $3.7 billion mega-mall that sits in the Meadowlands adjacent to MetLife Stadium.

The new scope of work on the project, which includes more than three million square feet of retail space, a theme park and indoor ski slope, was supposed to catapult it to completion following nearly a decade of mismanagement, economic issues and political maneuvering that helped stall its completion.

The teams believe the project, as recently-approved with the new entertainment and theme park additions, “will clog the complex’s already congested transportation networks and create a transportation nightmare when events are held at MetLife Stadium,” according to the lawsuit.

The American Dream complex has been on hold since 2009, when the original developer had financial problems.

Construction on the American Dream complex in East Rutherford alongside the New Jersey Turnpike in East Rutherford has been suspended since 2009, when then-developer Colony Capital and its partners ran into financial problems in the wake of the recession.
