David Barrett is a cornerback for the New York Jets.

Background and college

Born December 22, 1977 in Waterloo, Iowa, Barrett's mother passed away when he was 1 year old and he was raised by older sisters Kim and Denna along with their grandparents in Osceola. Barrett led Osceola High School to Class AAA state title as a senior, and also lettered in track and baseball and was high point scorer at prep district track meet. Barrett went to Arkansas, where he was a two-time All-SEC pick at Arkansas as a junior and senior. During his time with the Razorbacks, where he finished with 176 tackles, 7 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, and 5 sacks.

NFL Career

Before the Jets

Barrett was drafted in the 2000 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. In four years with the Cardinals, he played 62 games,and had 180 tackles and 6 interceptions.

As a Jet

The Jets signed Barrett as a UFA in March 2004. He has had 8 interceptions since then. Barrett suffered an eye injury which kept him out of a number of games in 2005. In 2006, despite playing with a hernia, he had an interception in a critical win at Minnesota, forced a game-changing fumble in the playoff-clinching win against Oakland and broke up two passes in the wild-card loss to the Patriots.
