stormshadow19 05-15-2006, 11:53 AM Minnesota. Then Cinncinatti. And then, a sweep in KC. Ah, it's been awhile.
G.O.B. 05-15-2006, 12:12 PM LMAO - Detroit's first sweep of Cleveland since 1990.

Is that right? It really has been a long time!!
I guess Guns just might be right on his 06, .500 or better Detroit prediction.
Jetsfan80 05-15-2006, 03:45 PM Congrats Tigers fans. You all, more than anyone, have earned the right to gloat in May. Here's to the Tigers winning the AL Central.

The Tigers have been bad for a long time. Gid forbid some of their fans get excited.

True, so why not let them enjoy their success while it lasts?

I will. I misread your initial post, I thought you were digging into them getting excited early.
StillerPaul 05-15-2006, 04:55 PM I'm officially a Tigers bandwagoner. I've always liked Jim Leyland. All that guy does is WIN.
Mavrik 05-15-2006, 05:01 PM I've been trying not to get too excited about the great start the tigers have had. Truth is, I've been waiting for the other shoe to drop on them and go on a 9 game skid and the truth is it just hasn't. They are playing GREAT baseball. Top to bottom. They are winning the close games they couldn't 1-2 years ago. They are getting the pitching they didn't get 1-2 years ago. And they are getting the hitting they didn't get 1-2 years ago. Hell, even with the exception of Rollercoaster Jones, the bullpen has been doing outstanding with Rodney and Joel Zumaya. I just hope they can keep it up through the month of September.

The Tigers have the best pitching in the Major Leagues. They have a top 10 offense. They'll be around til the All Star break. After that? We'll see what they do. They'll probably need to get another starting pitcher. They'll probably need a third baseman too.
And they're doing better than the Yanks, Sox, and the Mets, and have the best Road record in the majors. I'd say that's something to get excited about.

Dude, I have no problem with you guys getting excited, you should be. The Tigers are a great story so far and how can you not like Jimmy Leyland?
However, I would disagree that you guys have the best staff in the majors.

I didn't say they had the best staff... I said the best pitching. Check the stats. Yes, there is a difference. I said they'll probably need to pick up a starting pitcher. Obviously, if they need to do that, they don't have the best staff.

I realize there's a difference smart guy. You said they had the best pitching the the MLB. I apologize for interpreteing it the wrong way.
G.O.B. 05-16-2006, 01:46 PM It's a hard thing to be a Tigers fan right now. On one hand the city is estatic about their play and Detroit's love for its baseball team seems to be back with a vengence. Going to a game has a feel not around since the early 90s when you went to watch a competitive game, not to see the stars coming to town.
On the other hand we've been bad for so long that everyone keeps waiting for disaster to strike. With the May they're having so far I think that worry can be put away.
It's an exciting time here and I appreciate the support from those of you who know what it's like to see a team come back from the grave and start to be competitive.
They are playing sound baseball. I am sure they will have a rough patch or two along the way. But this team can play the game. They are baseballs biggest surprise!

Yeah they are. If they can take the series against the Yanks in a few weeks I'll be an even bigger believer. I think it's important for their team chemistry to start showing themselves they can beat the likes of CWS, NYY, BOS, etc. With the upcoming schedule they'll be getting their shot to prove me right.
You have to love what Leyland is doing with that team. Last year was especially brutal as a Tigers fan because deep down we all thought the talent was there and Leyland is proving that Trammell, as much as I love the man, wasn't getting it done. The team just carries itself in an entirely different manner, almost with a little swagger. Teams like the Yanks, W/R Sox, and other top tier teams got there because they had the talent and most importantly they believed in themselves. The Tigers are defintely heading that way. Dombrowski and Leyland are doing a find job.
stormshadow19 05-16-2006, 03:03 PM They're first in starting pitching ERA. First in the AL in bullpen ERA. And they're first in defense. And top 7 in AL offense. But, they're still missing something, and we are all waiting for the impending doom to hit, sometime after the All Star break.

Truth be told, Bonderman has matured more then last year, and adding Rogers gives you an element you have not had in a long time - a veteren presense on the mound. WIth the kid pitchers maturing, who is to say that Trammell would not have been able to also make this year's team a solid contending team like Leyland has done.
But kudos to Leyland. He has done the job, whether it was going to happen anyway is irrelevant.

I hope your league doesn't penalize for Errors. He's been a little error prone lately, but his bat is hot.
Blackout™ 05-18-2006, 11:29 PM nope, no error catagory
i just picked up Bonderman, he better not let me down GOB
