The kid looks like he can play....I think the Mets would be wise to hang on to him barring an offer of a cy young type of young pitcher.

If the A's offered us Zito for Milledge today, I'd turn it down.

Cliff Floyd has even been quoted to say that he would not be in support of trading Milledge to get SP help. And Milledge will be REPLACING Floyd next season. That's how good he's going to be.

Of course, you might not expect Floyd to express that he WOULD like to see a player get traded, but then again, why did he say "no" instead of "no comment"?

The Mets can buy a LF next season. How's this for a rotation:

Pedro
Glavine
Zito
Kazmir

Cmon....you knew I was going to do it. :p

why'd Lastings go and high-five all those fans?

For some reason he didn't understand that he was being asked to pop out for a curtain call after the HR. He did the high five in leiu of but the media will kill him for it.

He clearly doesn't understand the game. Peterson should set him straight! lol.

If you didn't have beltran I'd say hold onto this guy, but they are very much the same player and Milledge is a natural CENTER FIELDER...there is already too much money locked up in that position and Beltran is still young...Milledge's clock toward a gigantic pay day starts tick tick ticking now...trade him for an arm, your rotation would be a powerhouse in the NL if you threw zito into the mix. He is pitching lights out this seasn but his record doesn't reflect it because of his putrid run support. Where do you feel more comfortable going into a 7 game series against the Cards should it happen this fall...with Zito on the mound or Milledge possibly in the field or possibly a bench reserve? Glavine and Pedro can only trudge out there so many times, don't let it get to the point of RJ before you rectify the situation with some QUALITY, DURABLE young arms. Pitching will win it for you.

Lord knows none of us will hit a major league homerun, and you can only hit your first one ONCE. I say, let him enjoy the moment.

Agree.
He apologized later as well. I thought it was a nice moment.

The Mets Kangaroo Court made him get on the Airplane PA system and then run down the isle high fiving the Attendants-Coaches-Players etc.

I say, "Act like you have been there before". There will be a lot of firsts for him. How he handles them all will show how far he will go.

You can't knock the kid for the high fives. I would have been just as excited and I don't blame him for a second.

How do you know he doesn't break his leg, Max?

Look, all I'm saying is, I don't know what it's like to be in the bigs for the first time. Lastings DIDN'T act like he'd "been there before" because he hadn't. Who knows what kind of life he has led, and what path led him to the Majors. He simply got excited and got the fans going. I don't have a problem with it, but I do see why Willie had a talk with him.

In any case, it didn't hurt anyone, and there is no real problem in result of it. So who cares?

If somebody beans Lastings in the back with a fastball in the next few games or so,
I think we will all know why.

Buck Showalter cares that's who. Now turn that cap around the right way, tuck that shirt in and hustle to the OF.

Seriously what would be next? Guys not standing for God Blesss America?

for what? high fiving the fans? who is going to bean him? Smoltz? Gagne? did he do something to embaress them?

maybe some Yankee fans should worry about someone beaning Manny after he watches a 500 ft HR land before getting out of the box, instead of yet another thing to worry about, about the Mets.

That sort of reminds me of homophobes saying "what's next, people will start marrying animals?" Totally irrelevant.

who's putting him in the HOF? the KID isnt allowed to enjoy hitting his 1st career HR, to tie the game in the bottom of the 10th...AND when he does, that means he thinks he's going to the HOF??? I'm not sure what that has to do with anything.

Barton, he's got an inferiority complex, just ignore him

if we mention something Mets related, it means were "worried"

I don't see the problem in him getting hyped about his 1st career homer in a big spot. It's actually nice to see that he knows how to enjoy things. If he does that after every homer, that wouldn't be a good thing. The HUGE CROSS is a bit much. But I'd guess most people have burned all photos and negatives of themselves committing fashion crimes at a young age. He'll learn about that soon enough. This kid is dogged by some stuff, but really, it comes down to having consenual sex with a younger girl when he was a teenager and there's no allegation of anything invovling force or violence. It's nothing like Marcus Vick or something. As far as rubbing opponents the wrong way, the Mets should be so lucky as to see opponents continue to be so pissed at his success.

That kind of straightening out usually involves an extended stay on the DL.
