They now sit 2 games under .500 and 8 games back in the loss column. I still consider them as big of a threat to the Mets as the Phillies (4 GB), and realize that Atlanta is just biding its time before their youngsters can develop. But you have to wonder if the pitching woes are due to Mazzone's departure, and even if that IS NOT the case, whether their pitching even has the ABILITY to win on a consistent basis.
In any case, the Mets will be starting the west coast trip very soon. If ever a time for the Phillies and Braves to pick up ground, it is now. The Mets rarely go above .500 on these trips.

Actually, the Mets are in the middle of a West Coast trip right now. They just won 2 of 3 from teh Dodgers in LA.
But you are right that the Mets usually struggle out West. So do many East Coast teams.

I could have sworn they had a couple home series sandwiched in there. In any case, they will be continuing this long road trip for some time. We'll see how it all plays out.

The Braves fall to LAST PLACE, having lost 9 of their last 10. Which means they have the Mets just where they want them.
Magic number: 83.
Atlanta's done. Mets coast to the division title.

Time has finally caught up to the Braves. If the Mets don't win the East then they have only themselves to blame.
The one thing I would worry about as a Mets fan is that they have not gone through the bad stretch yet that every team goes through. Once they get through that they should be fine.

Braves bullpen is absolutely atrocious. Can't protect leads. Can't keep them in games. The run of division titles is over.
