You heard me correct. In the NCAA Baseball Super Regionals, 5 straight South Carolina hitters hit homeruns in the 2nd inning against 7th-ranked Georgia on ESPN2. The 6 total HR's they hit in the 1st and 2nd innings all took place with 2 outs against 2 different pitchers, and pushed their early lead to 9-0.
In my opinion, each of these HR's would have cleared the fences even if wooden bats were used. However, it does bring up the question: Is aluminum getting out of control? Is it wrong to be giving kids entering their primes bats whose trampoline-like technology is giving a large advantage to the offenses? Pitcher's, like those that took the mound today for Georgia, are at best, straining their necks as they watch balls fly out of the yard and as they watch their ERA's balloon, and one day, one of those pitchers WILL be killed by a line drive. It is only a matter of time.

Agreed...players should not be allowed to use aluminum after high school. And maybe sometime down the road, they should be banned from high school too.

Agreed. You don't realize how much of a risk pitchers are taking every day until something actually happens. They are 60 feet away, and thus, on a typical line drive back up the box, they generally have less than half a second to react. High School can keep the aluminum for now to keep the business alive, but it MUST be removed from college baseball.
If minor leaguers use wood, then college kids should too, since they are at similar ages and ability level. Furthermore, shouldn't they be trained with wooden bats if they plan to make a career out of the game?

Not saying I agree or disagree...but there will come a day when Little Leaguers are using wood bats only as well.
There are several wood bat tournaments for the youngsters. And they are gaining in popularity.

Max, agree 100%...
as a LL coach for nine years (I know its hard to fathom) but metal bats are DANGEROUS at every level for the speed the ball comes off the bat. I would NEVER put a kid who wasnt a EXCELLENT fielder at pitcher for that reason. As they move up the age groups it becomes a scarier proposition.
Its a shame when you are way ahead or behind in a LL game and you cant even put a lesser skilled player in at pitcher for a a few batters (its the kids dream to pitch) because he just doesnt have the skills to handle a line drive back up the middle.
