View Full Version : World Cup Soccer Excitement!
New way to induce sleep. Can we bottle this? Again, the game was designed by the English to cut down on the hand to eye coordination of the locals. It's harder to kick someone to death than to shoot him or throw a grenade. And especially so if you ran around a soccer ptich for a couple of hours.
BORING!
Go USA and Italy but agreed nothing better than watch for 90 minutes with no scoring or even close to a goal scored!
I can't watch soccer, I hate it on TV, I liked playing it as a little kid in Camp, but that's also because we played like 15 minute games and yeah, I was young. It's a beat sport.
But, I do have one question. Why is everyone all like crazy that Sweeden tied 0-0 with Trindad Tobago?

This is very crazy b/c trinidad and tobego is the smallest country to ever qualify for the world cup and they tied with sweeden, who has a record 13 returning players to the world cup. It is the biggest upset so far of the cup.
The whole thing makes me want to take a nap. I do enjoy watching the women's soccer, just not the men. It just seems to be more exciting and more games with an actual goal scored. They should try to enhance offense if they want to sell america on this sport. All the marketing in the world won't get me to tune in to anything other than maybe the finals game.

You think the rest of the world cares about what America thinks of soccer?
Green DNA 06-11-2006, 05:10 PM The best games are in the second round where they play the elimination games. It's do or die so teams let it all hang out. A 2-1- game can be very entertaining with a lot of near misses and creative play. Obviously, everyone has their preference with regard to sports but it seems funny that some people think soccer is boring, but find baseball exciting.

For those who find it boring try watching a team like Brazil play. They are an offensive machine. A lot of other teams play it to close to the vest and they do make the game dull but there are many exciting games. I love world cup soccer.

How is a tie an upset?

Well if you read the post you would see that I was talking about the marketing of the sport. ie: the people who have financial gain in getting america to like soccer. Thanks for trying though.
"How the hell are we never favored to win the World Cup of Soccer? We have millions of mexicans coming across the border, you would think 11 of them could play soccer."

Soccer Sucks.

Ummm.........Thanks for trying? Ok.

"They" are the people in charge of the event. "They" very much care about the American audience because there is no bigger, wealthier audience. Again, notice I did not say "the rest of the world". I wasn't talking about international leagues or soccer in Spain. I was referring to this event.
Oh alright. Clarification in the future would be nice... no need to get so uppity.
Everyone has their preferences in life- for me soccer is boring - sorry if that offends anyone my opinion
That is the story of life all have different tastes-not that one way is right

Sorry about that.

Baseball is boring.
But soccer is way worse. An full game of soccer on tv is absolutely unwatchable.
wildthing2022000 06-11-2006, 11:58 PM Just a bit off topic if people like high scoring games then why does nobody watches arena football? I mean it's the highest scoring team sport there is and nobody seems to care about it.

Ever heard of a sport called basketball? Last I checked, that's a team sport unless we're talking about the Lakers.

They have the best player on the PLANET!

Please. Basketball is about as much of a team sport as singles tennis. 10 primadonna, whiny players where the majority philosophy is to look out for you and your own. Most basketball players are more worried about getting shoe deals than whether they are a good teammate.

Exactly. The first round is the exhibition round. I think that there are Quid Pro Quo deals left and right between teams. Also, I think that a team that has a lock on advancing to the next round will try and manipulate other bubble teams to advance by letting them score a goal in a 2-0 game, because they think that team will match up well with another team they would like to see eliminated before they reach the quarter finals.

Because there needs to be SOME defense. It also needs to be well played and not just a sloppy shoot out.

Hey, don't get me wrong. I don't particularly like basketball, but that doesn't change the fact that it is a team sport, especially at the college level and it is indeed the highest scoring sport at that.
Latinlawyer 06-12-2006, 11:14 AM The world Cup happens every 4 years and for smaller nations its a Godsend. To qualify is a miracle and to advance is God Like. On Friday, the country of my parents origin, Ecuador, beat Poland 2-0. If we beat Costa Rica on Thursday we advance....I am rooting for Ecuador to make the second round...
Go Tri-Color! GO ECUADOR!
WOOO HOO!

College Basketball yes, Professional Basketball, no way.

Australia scored 3 goals in 7 minutes to beat Japan 3-1. That is exciting.
Good Luck to Team USA today.
Oh lay Oh lay Oh lay Oh lay, Cheers bitch.

Absolutely brilliant.
We have all been taking the piss out of all the Polacks here as a result of that game. All we need is for the Germans to eliminate them, and we're set. :)
The Excitement Continues! The Great No Offense matchup!

Gaston, please!
No, Hans, I insist.
No, Gaston, after you. I insist.
Agreed! We shall not offend, except for our collective failure to bathe.
There are many reasons, great and small, your forbears came to this great land. One not insignificant reason was that SOCCER SUCKS.

Don't talk about what you do not understand. An incredible accomplishment for a small island nation that was playing with 10 men for a good portion of the game.

You failed to notice two important things.
First point:
Switzerland 0.
Hello! It's the frigging Swiss! The most boring people on the planet next to the Belgians.
Cuckoo Clocks.
Crap chocolate. ("Why is the Milka Cow lilac?" Because you got an Austrian advertising exec to paint it, you wouldn't have the imagination to do so yourselves!"
The Swiss suck anything interesting from anything they touch.
The Heidi game? She was a bloody Swiss!
If they had made the first 20 minutes of Saving Private Ryan, no-one would have stayed awake to see the rest of the film.
Yodelling.
Everybody in the damned country has a gun which they never use.
You want mad cults? Sure, but none of them are Swiss, they just go there to kill themselves are the Swiss are too immersed in their boring non entitiy lives to do anything about them.
Boring shower of bastards.
Seconnd point:
France. 'Nuff said.
