Curious to see views on Mazzone
Baltimore has the worst ERA just about in baseball so far- so his going there his not helping in the short run. Some of their starters from last year are actually having way worse stets this year like Rodrigo Lopez and Cabrera
Is he a genius or not-?

I say give him a year....he will bring that staff around...look at what he did in atlanta and you know the guy is good. Believe me, I have seen his magic...taking scraps like horatio ramirez and making him look good when he sucks....
He is the goods

To be fair, almost his entire staff was in the WBC rather than working with him in spring training.

Add that to the pitching with the Braves this season not being up to par.

I was just about to say this. Atlanta's pitching this season has pretty much collapsed without Mazzone. Mazzone always managed to get the most out of not incredibly talented players while he was there. Now he's gone and the pitching staff has derailed a bit.
Give him time in Baltimore. Rome wasn't built overnight.

took him a few years to put together atlanta staff,,
give him a few years,, he inherited turd soup in baltimore
He is the best. But he is in a TOUGH park to be a pitching coach. Camden Yards has high school like dimensions.

Agree with all said in this thread
Only thing I point out though a couple of guys that pitched decent for Birds last year are having terrible starts this year

Peterson is the best. You should have seen the changes he had planned for Zambrano had we not traded for damaged goods.;)

Don't forget, Atlanta's pitching has been AWFUL without Mazzone. So who knows how much of an effect he has?

Now you are being a good sport! :)
