View Full Version : New York Jets Website (sucks!)
BwanaZulia 06-12-2006, 03:15 PM I am sorry. I have tried. I have been nice. I have put up with all the crap of flash upgrades, slow navigation and other stuff but come on.

It is linked from the bottom.
Why can't people just build websites that work as opposed to moving graphics and dynamic navigation?
Here we are in the next generation of the Web (2.0) and there still websites that need Flash 8 for navigation?
UGH!

You mean this 2.66 Ghz HP, with 1 GB or RAM and a 20" LCD?
Yeah, sure is a hand crank.

Get a computer.
BwanaZulia 06-12-2006, 03:29 PM Get a computer.
Read above smartbob.
I have your roll, reversed. A wonderful Mac (Macs) at home and a crappy PC at work with Windows 2000.
I love when it just crashes (full reboot) for no reason.
BZ
This Jets website is 100X better than the last POS

Maybe your problem is the Firefox browser. I use it at work because it's better than Safari, but it's pretty screwy with some sites.

I don't think you get it. It is not a computer/browser issue.
It is a bad link in their navigation (bottom)

well call Limo and have her use her connections to get it fixed
BZ,
You can't come on this site and blast the Jets. You are going to ruin all of the relationships with the front office we worked so hard....oh wait. Yeah that's right...the Jets already hate us.
Nevermind, as you were. ;)
Oh and I think the Fan Zone crashed the server. They got overloaded with Miller Lite Hot Spots. Seems like 5 or 6 fan site links was all the server could handle after all.

Try putting the word links/ after fan zone.
Thor99 06-12-2006, 07:00 PM You're going to change your mind when you find out that Herm designed the site.
"You see, a website is like life. It shouldn't be easy. I designed this website to challenge you, to make you realize what is important in life. Working hard, taking vitamins and making speeches. It's like my daddy told me, if you can design a POS website, you can be the greatest coach ever. My players believe in me, and they believe in my website."
BZ-"That is the best website ever."
PS. Not eligible for POTW.

Nice machine and I concur - the new site is as bad - maybe worse - than the old site. It's sad to not get your navigation right when using a frame work (Rails) designed for rapid and easy development. The Jets web guys help make the people I support look competent - something that is almost impossible to imagine.

Ok, I'm lying.

Sperm Edwards 06-13-2006, 07:15 AM BZ is right.
And am I the only one here that finds flash-only websites annoying? Take too long to reload, you can't click the back button. I think some web designers just feel they're flexing their skilz or some crap.
It doesn't enhance the site. It makes it annoying. If it was some artsy-fartsy graphics-only site then maybe I could see it. But most of the site is text. Where to watch the games; the schedule; team stats; history; etc. Absolutely no reason to be in flash.

Not to mention that search engines are blind to flash, making all the content basically no-existant to internal and external search engines.
Flash for navigation is the worst. Navigation should be quick, easy, intuitive and consistant.

Sperm Edwards 06-13-2006, 08:03 AM For other sites that matters (search engine stuff). But I don't think they worry about that aspect of it. Most non-forum-surfing Jet fans end up on their site anyway. I mean it's www.newyorkjets.com; I don't think people have to google the team name to find it. That notwithstanding, you're absolutely right about search spiders not being able to read it.
BwanaZulia 06-13-2006, 08:08 AM Well, they removed their search engine from the website it sucked so bad.
Here is where the search was when they launched.

Sperm Edwards 06-13-2006, 08:20 AM ah, I didn't think of that. They can't even do an internal site-search for people already there. Good point.
The webdesigners should be fired.
Easy! It is hard coaching Linebackers and designing websites at the same time.
The Jets are a small market team. They have to multitask!
BwanaZulia 06-13-2006, 08:59 AM Good point.
Wow. First a mod now that.

You're right. My bad. The Jets site has always sucked. At least it LOOKS better than it used to, even if it doesn't WORK better.

True.
I just loved that they were all impressed with themselves in their release by saying they had "search" and now had to pull the functionality.
Did they even test the website before launching it?
