How awful and utterly clueless did Garner sound while he was being interviewed with this play going on, as well during the whole interview?

I was left with the impression "this man is a major leaguer"?

GM, like I said, you won't see Posada do what Pudge did last night. I'm not talking about blocking the plate as in your video, I'm talking about having his leg exposed like that. Reason is (and it's been told before in the media) is that Jorge suffered a bad leg fracture in the minors. Hey, I'm a Yankee fan...I'm not knocking him, just stating the fact about using his legs to block the plate.

Posada helps the yankees alot more with his bat then he would be doing that 3-4 times a year and risking injury

And a lot more strikeouts, less doubles, and less triples. If pudge was on the yankees in posada's place for the last 8 years, the argument wouldn't even be close. He's a career .300 hitter, if the yankees got an offer I-Rod for posada straight up they wouldn't think twice if they were smart. Same age, better offensively, better defensively and costs 3 million less.

sharrow, i dont think ANYBODY will argue against Pudge being better historically. Pudge is one of the top 10 catchers ever. Posada might crack the top 25, thats it.

however, in 2006, I'd say Posada's a better player overall.

It's simple really. Posada is a better hitter. His OPS (the most important stat for judging hitters) is 70 points higher. Doubles triples and strikeouts mean nothing.

The only reason his OPS is higher is because he has more walks. So essentially what you're saying is that because he walks more, he's a better hitter. So somebody who walked every time they got to the plate would be the best hitter in the history of baseball according to you.

Somone who walked every time he got to the plate would never make an out therefore he would be the best player ever. The best players make the fewest outs and posada makes fewer outs then pudge does.

Oh, I thought we were talking about overall, not just this year. I'll give you that. Posada is having a decent year offensively. But the difference between the two isn't that great, imo. Anyway, hitting 6th in the yankee lineup, I'd rather have pudge driving in some runs than posada taking a walk.

And hows someone who walks every at bat going to be considered the best hitter all time, if he never hits a ball.
Posada's OPS isn't atrificial at all. He has a higher SLG% then pudge does added on to his advantage in OBP. Not only does he get on base more but he hits with more power. He's clearly the better player this year.

a Batter's job is to not make outs and any way they don't make outs is helping the team. A walk is literally as good as a hit most of the time so a batter walking every time up would give his team more outs to play with every game.

Those aren't year to year stats though, they're this year. Pudge is the better hitter this year when there are runners on. If Posada was doing so good with his walks, he would have more runs than Pudge this year. Well, you're bound to get more walks when you're hitting so deep in the lineup all the time. The only reason Posada is batting 6th now is cause Matsui and Sheffroid are injured, hell they might even demote him under Cano too once he comes back.
