Thank you for joining us this afternoon. We call this press conference to address several issues. After my statement I will be taking questions from the media in attendance.

Opening Statement - JetNation.com Press Conference 07/12/06
The State Of JetNation is good. In just over one short year we have around 1,500 members and are approaching 10 million hits per month. To those that say this site is dead, I know the facts tell another story. This site is something that I am proud of. I think it is a site that we can all be proud of. In just over a year we have had more trials and tribulations here than any of us would have preferred. The end result is always the same...JetNation prevails.

JetNation is and will always remain a place for NY Jets talk. We don't now nor will we ever take ourselves very seriously. The goal here is not to get press passes or make a ton of money off this site. The goal is to talk Jets and have fun. It is that simple.

This site is on the verge of big things. With football season right around the corner we are expecting record hit counts. We have a new lineup of editorials coming your way this season that include the JetNation report card by GOB after each game, Tuesday Morning QB by Tyson Rauch, weekly Fantasy football columns and a new soon to be unveiled JetNation podcast. The point is, we work hard to bring you Jet news and to keep the perspective fresh and unique.

JetNation has experienced some growing pains along the way. Some people that started with us are no longer here and that is unfortunate. But JN is looking forward to a future which is bright.

Changes

JetNation.com is free. As long as I own this site, there will never be a charge or fee associated with posting here. This also means there will never be a fee for premium content. JetNation will never again solicit Paypal donations from its members. There was a one time Paypal campaign that raised $1,200. These helped us settle our obligations and get current. Those donations were greatly appreciated but are never expected again.

Through the use of text links and minimal advertising I am happy to report that JN now breaks even each month. So we thank you for your help in the past and will rely on the few sponsors that we have chosen to keep paying the bills.

So there are no changes in the day to day operation of this site. It is still free. We do need to address the issue of personal attacks. These must stop immediately. We have been pretty loose with many of the rules. The rules remain the same:

No cursing may be posted (you may curse out loud as you post if you feel the need to)
No nudity may be posted
Political threads\conversations are not allowed because it gets ugly and NY Jets talk is our ultimate goal here
Personal attacks will not be toleratedThe last issue seems to be where the confusion comes from. What is a personal attack? Everyone has a different opinion. The moderators opinion is the only one that counts. If they deem your post as being a personal attack, it will be deleted.

Respect

We need to increase our level of respect for one another. In many ways we are comfortable saying things over the internet that we would never say to someones face. This can offend people and leads to problems.

Treat people with respect. This goes for the Moderators especially. Smizzy, G.O.B., Faba, Tabor and Sperm have all done a lot of work here. When Storm was a mod he had his balls busted constantly. It is all good and fun but there is a line. Please remember, they receive zero pay. Most days are fun. But some days can seem like work here. Please, we ask you to make their life easier by treating them fairly. We do not delete\lock all that much. If you feel the need to question their judgement please do so in a professional manner. Again, the pay they receive is pretty lousy. Especially considering the amount of work they do.

Everyone has an opinion on this subject. Everyone apparently has a list of people they would ban if they could. Up to this point we have banned only a few people. Banning is our last resort. All bannings so far have been permanent. I would even say that everyone who has been banned so far has wanted to get banned. They were trolling, looking to cause us grief.

Today I banned 80. He has been warned numerous times about personal attacks. Again what might be labeled a joke to some is considered offensive to others. Best that you not travel down that road most times because it leads to no good. 80's banning is a JN first. It is a 30 day banning. We are going to try this out much like our friends at tgg do. In 30 days 80 can rejoin this community if he still wishes to do so.

This site can be fun. We need to just remember there are a few rules. We are Jets fans we have enough to be miserable about already! Thank you all for posting here. Thank you all for growing this site. Please stay with us while we continue to grow and bring you more content.

I'll answer #3 for Max since he has no "inside info" I'm not albino, the pictures you saw just happened to be before summer. Unlike that old fart community that you live in, we don't have sun year round and we have to make do. Now that it's the middle of the summer I actually have a tan.

You know, one of the things in life I have learned is that not everyone finds what you (speaking in general terms) might find funny and the other might find insulting...just think before you post something is all.

jetfanfl, I'm sorry savage is gone as well.(he's the one who told me about this site for which I am forever thankful) I thought he had thicker skin than that though. 80 wasn't the only one involved in the thread which led to savage leaving, and old dirtbag is not the harshest insult i've seen thrown around here.

Holy crap, that's 3 POTW nominations for joewilly in this thread alone!! The man is on fire!!! It looks like he's emptying the vault and making a concerted effort to lift the hardware ths week.

You see, that's where a lot of the problems exist...the evil POTW stuff. Posters try to be funny at another posters expense. Not always, but it does happen...it's the old "let me see if I can one up you".

JFF-Sav is a big boy and he knows the block that he is working on. What 80 did was wrong in that thread, but Sav was obviously having a bad day.

If that simple thread alone made Sav leave, he has less gumption than I once believed. I would have to believe it was more than that. That is his business, and I will respect that.

I repeat, the name calling that was done in one instance in that thread was wrong, but if that makes a person snap and leave, particularly of the fortitude of Sav, well I would be dissapointed.

JFF-Sav is a big boy and he knows the block that he is working on. What 80 did was wrong in that thread, but Sav was obviously having a bad day.

If that simple thread alone made Sav leave, he has less gumption than I once believed. I would have to believe it was more than that. That is his business, and I will respect that.

I repeat, the name calling that was done in one instance in that thread was wrong, but if that makes a person snap and leave, particularly of the fortitude of Sav, well I would be dissapointed.

You are 100% correct...it is more than that. But, I just won't go into that out of privacy. Savage I think will be back down the line though.

You see, that's where a lot of the problems exist...the evil POTW stuff. Posters try to be funny at another posters expense. Not always, but it does happen...it's the old "let me see if I can one up you".

sorry jetfanfl but I come to this board for jet football insight & a nice diversion from my stressful job. its the offseason & I really luv the humor this board exudes. dna for instance, is a poster who cracks me up & I look for his posts cause they're usually wrought with humor. I don't think he ever does it by offending anybody.
I seem to be the butt end of a lot of the jokes around here & do not find it offensive in the least, as I enjoy good humor.
there was no humor flying in the thread that savage chose to leave, & that kinda thread is not the direction i wanna see.
