alk mentioned he's doing a theme birthday party for grant & walking the plank across the pool will be one of the activities. It cannot be said enough times here how cool it is when parents go the extra mile for their kids so lets help him out with some ideas.....i'll start ok?

1- while dipping the invitions in tea to make them look old & piraty is a great idea, I think you should change the words "nude plank walk" to "clothing optional"

2- if the kids are making it across the plank too many times without falling, maybe have some water balloons on hand to be thrown from either end of the pool

3-perhaps the plank should be widened at the very ends so no one cracks their skull on the coping stones

4-cover the plank in fake grass for effect then pm me as to how it held up to chlorinated water.

5- do not use maxs poolboy to supervise any events. the watersports experience in his resume is very misleading

2- if the kids are making it across the plank too many times without falling, maybe have some water balloons on hand to be thrown from either end of the pool

cover the board with a fine layer of oil or butter and watch the real fun begin...

btw ALK, pretty cool thing you are doing for the boy

maybe this will be a good activity for the kids at the JN/JI/TGG BBQ

Thanks for the suggestions. I think we had taken most of that stuff into consideration already. We'll have parents standing at both ends of the pool in case one of the kids were to lose their balance right off the bat. Then I think there will be a couple of us in the pool with those pool balls that can absorb like 5 gallons of freakin' water. These will all be pretty little kids though so I don't know if we will need to make it tougher on them or not. We're going to draw up a map of the back yard tonight so we can make treasure maps. We bought little treasure chests so we're going to load them up with candy and all that good stuff and draw up a different map for each kid.

Well, the party was a huge success. Everyone loved the plank, even several of the adults once they got enough beer in them. We made up treasure maps and all of the kids got to do a little treasure hunt. This might go down as the longest birthday party ever. It started at 3 and we didn't go home until 10. We definately didn't have any trouble sleeping last night.

If it were an adult's birthday party, I have no doubt we would have went longer but the birthday boy was done for. I haven't downloaded the pictures yet but there are a few of good ol' Alk walking the plank. :)

Trouble sleeping Alk? Man I was up till 5 drinking and had to wake up at 9 for the water company and now I've got to pack ALL DAY because we're moving out at 9am tomorrow. So this might be one of the last posts for a week or so, so Alk, congrats on the party for Grant being a success. Arrrr!!!

We didn't have to worry about making the kids fall off of the plank, they were doing a good enough job of that all by themselves. If they weren't trying to push eachother off of it, they were using it as a springboard to jump into the pool. Towards the end of the night, Grant "challenged" me so of course I wound up taking a header into the pool fully clothed. :)

Yeah, I would definitely like to see pics. Still a great idea for a bday party.

You should have setup a separate "Tortuga" area for adults to get drunk and fight each other.

We were close. We had a huge cooler of beer over in the corner but we didn't dare put any two adults on that plank at the same time.:)

Is that a Pat's Tattoo on your ankle? How did that happen? You and the Girls got buzzed off some wine coolers and decided to get anklets?

Yeah, that's a Patriots logo. When I was in high school I had a homemade Nine Inch Nails tattoo on my ankle where my parents wouldn't see it so I got it covered with something a little more professional looking.

I think it took her about a day to do. If I remember right, she started it on saturday morning and had it done on Sunday. My plank exceeded all expectations. It bowed alot when you walked on it but that was intended to make things more difficult. I was more impressed that it held me and a few guys that were even bigger than me.

What is that a gold necklace around your neck?

If that necklace around your neck was any bigger, it'd have a clock attached to the bottom of it.

The cake looked good but I never even got to try it. The wife sent me in the house to change the baby's diaper and when I got back the cake was gone. :Cuss:

I'm sure for the right price she would be willing to throw one on some dry ice and ship it your way. The way most of the shipping companies handle stuff though there would be no guarantee that it would like like a treasure chest by the time it got there. :)
