Jetsfan80 07-13-2006, 05:21 PM BURNS huh? No Smizzy, it doesnt burn when I pee. Good luck with that. Ponson: 4-4, 5.24 ERA, 29 BB and 33 K's in 68 innings. Not too good. Scott Dierking 07-13-2006, 05:34 PM He is a shell of his former self. Not literally, of course, as he is as big as a whale. The guy does not have his former fastball and wants to nibble, nibble, nibble. He just can't. in teh AL, that will be a tough gig for him. he had a nice spring training and early part of the year, but he has been getting hurt. They let the kid Reyes take over his spot. the man has a lot of baggage, literally and figuratively. Jetsfan80 07-13-2006, 05:36 PM He is a shell of his former self. Orioles last season SouthernJet 07-13-2006, 06:07 PM Orioles last season wow,, he has been released by Two teams in less than a year,, do you realistically think he has a chance to catch on with another team after that resume? GimmeShelter 07-13-2006, 06:13 PM Cards dropped him when they picked up Weaver. Ponson was sharp up until June. 4-0 and should have had more. Since then though he has been a wreck. Like the Leiter deal last year, Kris Wilson last week, this is worth a shot but it's clear that teams are asking Yanks for fair return on all trade offers. The Yanks no longer get to fix whatever is broken every July via salary dumps. NIGHT STALKER 07-13-2006, 06:27 PM I think you might have caught JetFanFLitis...or another term...double posting. The Management AirForceJetFan 07-13-2006, 07:19 PM :character42: CrazyCarl40 07-13-2006, 07:42 PM Can't be any worse than Jason Johnson. My God that guy is awful. Barton 07-13-2006, 08:26 PM You watch, this guy will be the Yankees world series MVP this season. No seriously, this guy is a fat POS. I heard they designated Chacon, seems kind of unfair. He was 4-1 with an era of 3.85 before he got hurt, and after he came off the DL they have complete f#cked him with his spot in the rotation, skipping him over etc etc. I think it has to do with him running his mouth too much how he didnt like his role blahblah. 124 07-13-2006, 08:31 PM I'll take Ponson over Wilson anyday. He actually will pile up the innings as well, unlike Wrights 5, sometimes 6 inning performances. LionelRichie 07-14-2006, 02:18 AM I'll take Ponson over Wilson anyday. He actually will pile up the innings as well, unlike Wrights 5, sometimes 6 inning performances. ponson is a pile of crap. hopefully he can eat up innings for the yankees and return to his good form. i think the ny social life will be too much for him although this may be his last chance. if he can commit himself to the game he has the tools. his biggest problem is partying too much. i had a friend that lived in the same complex and would bet against ponson on the nights he pitched after a big bender in b'more - real scumbag when it comes to women too. GREENSMACKS 07-14-2006, 03:51 AM the latin version of david wells Mavrik 07-14-2006, 08:06 AM Sorry fellas, but if this is the only pitching move you guys make this season, you guys are in serious trouble. Ponson has had the highest ERA of any pitcher since 2004, and if you think that's suddenly going to change because he's a Yankee, then I doubt it. Keep him away from the rotation, that's all i would say. Barton 07-14-2006, 11:06 AM I had read in the post a week or so ago about a Chacon for Joel Pineiro swap. That IMO would have been a great deal. I know Pineiro has fallen off, but he has much better stuff than Chacon and had a couple good years and 1 great year in seattle. Plus, he's still pretty young. Barton, before you say another word about bringing Joel Pinero to the Yankees, look at his lifetime numbers against AL East teams. I checked it out last year when Pinero to the Yanks was rumored and his numbers could not have been worse against Boston, and if I'm not mistaken they were even worse against the D' Rays. NO WAY!!!! I'll check those out but I'd still rather take a chance on him that he comes back to half the pitcher he once was with a change of scenary then seeing 1 of the 3 stooges pitching for us! lol AirForceJetFan 07-14-2006, 11:15 AM Here are Pineros numbers vs. AL EAST vs. Bos 3-5 6.75 ERA @ Bos 1-3 5.55 ERA vs. TB 2-4 5.57 ERA @ TB 1-2 6.67 ERA vs. Bal 3-4 5.09 ERA @ Bal 1-2 5.83 ERA vs. Tor 1-4 4.72 ERA @ Tor 1-2 4.94 ERA 13-36 lifetime with a 5+ ERA...no thanks, I'd rather bring back Wade Taylor Barton 07-14-2006, 11:19 AM wow. Horrible numbers :character42: He must have gotten injured in 2004 because he was very good in 02 and 03 then he made only 21 starts in 04 and he has been a miserable pitcher since. 124 07-15-2006, 05:44 PM Easy there Red Sox fans...according to Ponson and his agent the Red Sox were one of a few teams interested in Ponson as soon as he was released. Bob 07-15-2006, 11:35 PM I was in Aruba three years ago. He was a national hero there. CrazyCarl40 07-16-2006, 02:32 AM Easy there Red Sox fans...according to Ponson and his agent the Red Sox were one of a few teams interested in Ponson as soon as he was released. Well we do need a 5th starter. Johnson is awful. Wells may be coming back so that will solve everything. fatman 07-16-2006, 02:47 AM I dont understand this move ponson is not a good pitcher he just can't pitch this was not a good move by the yankees Max 07-16-2006, 08:35 AM I dont understand this move ponson is not a good pitcher he just can't pitch this was not a good move by the yankees They are trying to find this years version of Chacon\Small. GimmeShelter 07-16-2006, 08:46 AM They are trying to find this years version of Chacon\Small. Agree this is a good move and cost the Yanks nothing. Max 07-16-2006, 09:05 AM Agree this is a good move and cost the Yanks nothing. Not sure about that. He will probably pitch crappy and the team meals just got MUCH more expensive. :p 124 07-16-2006, 09:58 AM I was in Aruba three years ago. He was a national hero there. Bob, I know exactly what you're talking about. I go to Aruba every other year for a week-10 days and all the bartenders there and people talk about Sidney Ponson as a hero of the country. It's pretty funny. But then again, he wasn't doing all too bad a few years back. 124 07-16-2006, 09:58 AM Not sure about that. He will probably pitch crappy and the team meals just got MUCH more expensive. :p Did he not start out 4-0 with a sub 3.00 ERA? He's had a rough stretch of late but he can turn things around with some run support and being back in the AL, knowing the batters. Jet/BosoxFan 07-16-2006, 02:15 PM Well you should hope Ponson didn't cost too much. He's got a pretty big contract and he's not too far away from being a right-handed David Wells... Except that Wells USED to be a good big game pitcher and has actually accomplished something in his life noteworthy. But yes, both are fat, drunk, and stupid. Jetsfan80 07-16-2006, 02:17 PM Did he not start out 4-0 with a sub 3.00 ERA? He's had a rough stretch of late but he can turn things around with some run support and being back in the AL, knowing the batters. How is he going to turn it around by going BACK to AL? I thought the NL was the AL's AAA? Remember how Carl Pavano had 18 wins for the Marlins then disappeared with your Yankees? 124 07-16-2006, 02:45 PM How is he going to turn it around by going BACK to AL? I thought the NL was the AL's AAA? Remember how Carl Pavano had 18 wins for the Marlins then disappeared with your Yankees? The NL is the AAA, but, Ponson does know the hitters and he's getting over some personal issues recently so I believe he can turn it around. He also will get better run support then what he was getting in St.Louis. Oh and Jet/Sox, just think, the Sox were interested in Ponson, you could've had 2 fat, former alcoholic pitchers. Jetsfan80 07-16-2006, 02:51 PM The NL is the AAA, but, Ponson does know the hitters and he's getting over some personal issues recently so I believe he can turn it around. What an assinine thing to say. getting over some personal issues means gaining enough weight to surpass a sperm whale. If you weren't just a biased Met fan, you'd know his personal issues revolve around moby dick. From Boston Papers: One thing that may have changed is the idea that the Red Sox are the more obsessed rival. Baseball stories in New York newspapers have become increasingly Boston-centric. Yesterday's Post insisted that pitcher Sidney Ponson ``snubbed" the Sox when he signed with the Yankees Friday. ``Not true," said Epstein. ``We had no interest in him. None. And you can quote me." madmike1 07-16-2006, 03:08 PM From Boston Papers: One thing that may have changed is the idea that the Red Sox are the more obsessed rival.
