View Full Version : Yankees sweep ChiSox
6-5
14-3
6-4
Also faced there Top 3 in Contreas, Buerhle and Garcia. So much for WC coming from the AL Central as a lock. Yankees behind either a 1/2 game (0 in L colum) or 1.5 games (1 in L colum) to Boston by the end of today and are now 3 in back of Chicago (2 in L colum).
Sweeeeeeeeeeeep. Break out the brooms!
BTW, you're welcome Mav & G.O.B.

124, you missed a spot on your pants. There's still seamen on them.
TaborJet 07-16-2006, 04:21 PM Farnsworth almost blew it in the 8th.
But leave it to the Sandman to nail down his 400th save.

If only we played in a joke division like the mets do then we could go to sleep for the rest of the season...

As always, Mo comes through when we need him.
And, we didn't have to use Proctor today either.

What does that have to do with the thread? You went 10-8 in the NL East sport but yes ,you should go to sleep for the rest of the season.
Great series for the Yanks.

Great series for the Yanks.
So because the yankees went 10-8 which isn't even that terrible vs the NL east that means it's a good division? the 2nd place team is 7 games under 500 LOL How did the mets do vs the AL east?

None of this "NL East sucks" argument means a thing. The Mets are cruising to a division title (Magic # = 61), and an AL matchup will only matter once the Mets reach the World Series. And at that point, who really cares whose division was stronger or what the Mets record was against the AL?
In any case, a part of the reason the NL East is so bad is that the Mets have fared well against its teams (23-12). If the Mets were, say, .500 against said teams, the division would look a bit differently.

IT dosn't matter but any one of 4 teams in the AL would be in first place in the NL east. Probably more.

Are you telling me the Orioles and/or Devil Rays would be in 1st place in this divison, over the Mets?
And again, it does not mean a damn thing how weak the division is. That will be neither here nor there once the playoffs heat up.
Funny how you turned a thread, in which Yankee fans should be celebrating a sweep over an AL rival, into a thread about the Mets. I thought Yankee fans don't care about the lowly "Mess"?
shawn306 07-16-2006, 04:41 PM Good job by the Yanks. Chicago is not pitching well at all. (Other than Contreras). Wild Card out of the Central isn't so out of the question now. Seems like last year all over again.
Big thing though is that the White Sox open a series with the Tigers tommorow. Detroit has a HUGE opportunity to really open up some distance between them the Sox.

My point is like a 12 yr old you equate the work you have to do in your league to make the playoffs to sound like you've caught a bad break by not being a NL East team. Division weakness is circular so suck it up and stop trying to compare your situation with the Mets.
The thread is about the Yanks sweeping the WSox so stifle and go reread "Moneyball".

I said the AL not the AL EAST. I don't really care about the mets i just wish the yankees were in such an awful division so we didn't have to get so excited about sweeping the white sox.

Speaking of division weakness being circular, isn't the NL East the same division that had every team above .500 just last year? Things change in a heartbeat in pro sports. Meanwhile, I'm going to enjoy the Mets' NL East championship just fine, thanks.

Circular? The AL east has NEVER been as bad as the NL east this year in over 15 years.

And exactly since when did the Yankees need to use division strength as an excuse? Your team has won 8 straight division titles and spends nearly $200 million, yet you pick this season to complain about your division?
I only wish the NL East had 2 awful franchises like the Devil Rays and Orioles rather than two well-run organizations like the Braves and Marlins.

at least the yankees make the playoffs with their payroll. the mets havn't made the playoffs since 2000 with payrolls around 100. and you call the o's and drays awful franchises lol

Ok try and understand this then. You state the entire AL East would win the NL East yet only Boston out of the SOX, Yanks and Jays had a winning record against us. What's the story with that, a bad OPS w/end?
Enjoy the win today and stop being such a bore with your nonsense.

My math skills may be rusty, and I hate to beat a dead horse....but $100 million is less than $198 million. And the payroll has only reached 9 figures since Minaya arrived, if I am not mistaken.
Does every single thread have to lead you 2 to bickering back and forth at each other?

He likes bashing the yankees pointlessly in every thread so thats what happens.

The post I made in response to 124 was made out of humor, yet the thread was turned into a serious one concerning the Mets. Wonder who made that happen...
JonEJet 07-17-2006, 01:02 AM Just got back from a weekend in The Bronx
And, what a weekend it was.......let me tell you something.....Derek Jeter will have to get some cnsiderations for AL MVP....this is the best I've seen him play
Yankee fans need to layoff ARod
The guy has a great game, and grounds out in the 8th, and BloSawx-like douchebags give him hell for the groundout....give it a rest, the guy is playing great ball right now
I don't understand Kyke Farnsworth....he comes on, throw 98 MPH heat...blows them away....sits for the half inning, and is completely shot
The guy is a 1 inning guy
I love Melky Cabrera......Cash would be nuts to let the guy go for Abreu or any other stick
Mo....The Best.
Matt39 07-17-2006, 01:17 AM I'm beigninning to wonder what Mets fans will say when they eventually have to pay Wright and Reyes.

He;ll say
200 Mill> 150 Mill
Because that is what Wright and Reyes will cost.....20-25 mill each:eek:
Mavrik 07-17-2006, 08:14 AM Much props to the Yanks for sweeping the series. Gave us just what we needed. a Nice 4 1/2 game lead going into our Det/Chi matchup.

Oh I'm waiting for that as well. When the Mets come damn close to matching up with us salary wise. Going to be great.

Something I've been wondering lately...Is the $198 million number including arod's full $25m? I was under the impression Texas was paying at least $10 million of it. Not trying to make excuses for the payroll, cause even if i'm right, its still $60 million more than the sox, I was just curious if it was his full salary putting the Yanks at $200 million,or if we're actually at that even with arod getting a big chunk from the rangers.

A-Rod makes 25 mil per season and the Yankees pay around 17 mil of that. As to how they count that in total salary I would think the would only consider the money coming out of the Yankees pockets but I can't say I know that for sure.

You do realize that the NL East will have between 1 and 3 teams with 100 losses this year. Or, more likely, you will have 4 teams with 90 losses this year. That is pretty pathetic.
But this is a Yankee celebration thread. And I am celebrating.

You got more then you wanted. And we hope that next time, you will give the Bosox a rougher time.
