Congrats to the Yanks for showin they are still th eteam to beat for asserting themselves in a uge way.
Looks like Yanks will win East by more than a handful when said and done.

The race for most wins in NY may come down to last week or so...it will be close and interesting,,
Again,, great job for Yanks VS WhiteSox and for puttin stains in RedSox shorts.

Thanks there SJ...still early yet though. We'll get a better handle on this race after Labor Day. Barring any more injuries, Yanks should be a healthy club by then.

I'm afraid george is going to push for a bat...ie trading Cabrera

I may jump ship if he trades Melky:Cuss:

Boston starting pitching is a weakness that they have not been able to overcome- trading Arroyo is biting them back and Beckett has certainly not been the stopper for them

We need to keep the pedal to the metal and keep this hot streak going!
We always go on these mini-streaks and then flame out and have a letdown game. I like the matchups for us in this series. Wang, Ponson, Johnson. Win tonight, keep putting pressure on the sox and they will crack like alks piggybank when he goes to mcdonalds.

Yanks showed me something yesterday though. They have been notorious for not scoring runs the day after a blowout win. Sunday was a big win for them...and sweeping the Sox was extra special.

Would you be willing to trade Melky in a package for Abreu?

I'd trade Duncan before Melky

Oh, and did you see Melky's cannon in full display yesterday
Stole a base too......yanks need guys like that......Abreu is great, but we can afford a Melky type player with Giambi, Matsui, Arod driving him home

tuff question. This team is finally playing LIKE A TEAM. The lineup is playing like a team and it seems everybody is really loving it. And Melky is a big part of that.

No I dont think I would trade Melky + package for Abreu, or Duncan + package for Abreu. Duncan could bust, so could Melky, but we have to find some longterm players for the future of this team and Melky is starting to really hit and we know what kind of glove he has. I say when Matsui comes back, Melky stays in left and Matsui goes to right field. Matsui has a poor arm and doesnt cover half as much ground as Melky.

Good point. This team is fun too watch. Remind me of the late 90's team.
I didnt watch much of anything of the 96 WS, didnt even catch the world series, was too caught up being a kid so I didnt know what that feeling was like but max says it reminds him of this team.

Where I think we need a bat, is for the DH spot

Bernie had a nice weekend....and it's nice how the stadium crowd treats hime....but he has a role as spot starter these days.....Bernie is playing so well, I'd like to see him back next year

Ruben Sierra anyone?

I've knocked Torre a bunch. But if he pulls this out with this shaky staff and without his 2 corner outfielders and Cano for most of the season, he's manager of the year, even over Leyland.

The Seattle series is big IMO because this is where the Yankees have had let downs throughout the season. They beat up on a contender and then fizzle out against a mediocre team. Two of three from Boston and then swept by Oakland comes to mind. This team has to beat up on these weaker teams and keep playing the way they have against others like the Red and White Sox until Matsui, Cano, Sheff get back.

agree,,
even more impressive on this series is that it came afetr the allstar break,,
that tells me the Yanks sat down, refocused and came out with a purpose,,

An excellent point. The Yankees do seem to struggle for runs the game immediately following a blowout. Why, I do not know.

But they came through yesterday, and scoring 3 in the first was hugh, as it did not look like Wright was going to last long.

If the Tigers make the post-season, Leyland has MOY in his back pocket, and it won't be close.

Torre has done very well though, given what he has missed most of the year.

Barton...

The 96 team was just a bunch of guys that got the job done. Some way, some how they got it done. It didn't matter who was in the lineup. They didn't have big named relievers at the time (except Wetteland) but they were clutch.

This team is a high priced version and hasn't proven anything yet. But the way these no-namers have contributed keeps me hopeful!

I think it is a touch to early to be crowning the Yankees AL East Champs. Don't Yankee fans always say that Division titles aren't won in July?

I don't see anyone saying that. We're just happy they have been playing the way they have missing their two corners, second baseman and a couple of SP's.

It's the Red Sox fans that gloat for the first couple of months about winning it all...hey, they got it right for the first time and only time in their lifetime...2004. Enjoy it.
