Blue Jays trade Hinske to Red SoxAugust 17, 2006
TORONTO (AP) -- The Toronto Blue Jays (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/tor/) traded outfielder Eric Hinske (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6645/) and cash to the Boston Red Sox (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/bos/) on Thursday for a player to be named.
Hinske, who can also play first and third, is hitting .264 with 12 home runs and 29 RBI. The emergence of right fielder Alex Rios (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7254/) and the offseason acquisitions of third baseman Troy Glaus (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6063/) and first baseman Lyle Overbay (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6639/) affected Hinske's playing time. The 29-year-old Hinske won the 2002 AL rookie of the year award with Toronto. He was pulled from the lineup shortly before the start of Wednesday's 8-3 loss against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/tam/) in Florida.
Pitching should have been the priority no?

Yes.
Maybe they are going to try to slug it out. LOL! Doesn't Hinske hit Yankee picthers especially well?

He gives Wang problems if I recall.
Iliken this to the Craig Wilson deal for the Yanks.....nice extra stick.
AirForceJetFan 08-17-2006, 04:28 PM Actually, looking at his numbers against current Yankees changes the numbers significantly to a .315 avg. He hits Wang well but A LOT of that is off of Ponson who he won't see much of outside of the upcoming double header. Solid move by Boston if the thought was to get a guy who does well vs. the Yanks.

I think Wilson may have a bit more power, but both guys can play several positions. Depending on which kid the Bosox give up, this is a "no-lose" deal.
CrazyCarl40 08-17-2006, 04:31 PM I'll take the LH bat of a guy who can play four defensive positions well enough. Especially one with an .865 OPS. Who also owns, Wang, Lidle, and Wright. Yes indeed.

Like I said, nice move by Boston...but I would hardly say any player in MLB "owns" another after a 3 for 5 showing. IMO it's gotta be AT LEAST double digit ABs to show the ability to hit a guy well. AT LEAST. But to each his own.
NIGHT STALKER 08-17-2006, 10:17 PM I'm surprised the Jays traded him to another team that they'll battling for a wild card spot...especially in the same division.

He won't see Wright. And he can't hit Moose.
P.S> - Pavano owns him. ;) Oh, he's not pitching? SInce when?

Toronto did not have enough pitching to compete with Boston and Yanks- they spent their load on lineup and not enough on pitching beside Ryan as the closer

Halliday has been excellent. But AJ was not all that he is expected to be, and also spent time on the DL. Lilly was OK, at best. Chacin was hurt a lot. The middle relief was non-existent. So they are starting to unload. Schowenweiss, Hinski. I would expect another player or 2 to be sent packing soon.
GimmeShelter 08-18-2006, 03:29 PM Wang looks good except for Mr. Hinske.
