View Full Version : Yanks and their money....
NIGHT STALKER 08-19-2006, 08:12 PM For those of you that have nothing better to complain about other than how much the Yankees spend. Did you notice how many starters on the Yanks today are home grown?
1. Melky
2. Bernie
3. Jeter
4. Cano
5. Posada
How many home grown players did the Sox put on the field today?

Off the top of my head: Papelbon, Lester & Delcarmen. All pitchers.
Bernie and Posada are old. Jeter is in his 10 year. The Sox farm system looks good.

Sorry Gainzo, those don't count...I didn't go into the Yanks pen. I'm talking about the starting 9 in the field.
shawn306 08-19-2006, 08:44 PM Both sides have their nice share of young talent.
What is nice though at least on the Yankees side of things is that everyone last year and this year said the Yankees farm system had run dry.
Well last year it prouced guys like Wang and Cano
This year Cabrera
If you are able to get just one guy from your farm system to make significant contributions then you have done well. It is something that the Yanks had not really done since Soriano in 01.
Now you have Cashman in control instead instead of the chuckleheads in Tampa and you are seeing the fruits of the farm system starting to produce again.
Cashman held firm to his vow of not trading either Cano or Wang and it has paid of in a big way. Hopefully he does the same for Cabrera.

You win on that one then. But then again you brought up Williams and Posada. Both old blokes. They will be done next season.

Hey Gainzo, I'm an old bloke myself...nothing wrong with that.;)

So am I, but we don't play MLB!
I have issues getting out of bed after an Aussie Rules football game and I'm only 33. How old are Bernie and Posada?

They're in their 30's, but that still doesn't take away the fact that they're home grown...in fact, that proves my point even further. Having those guys around since their rookie season is almost unheard of nowadays.
Sharrow 08-19-2006, 10:43 PM So when are they going to bring Hughes up?
So when are they going to bring Hughes up?
Next September!

Very nice in depth research.
Question....does this mean the Yankee payroll is NOT 210 million?

Do you get it yet? I don't care how much the Yankees spend. Spend $300 mil if that means putting a competitive team on the field...like I've said a zillion times over, it's only the fans from opposing teams that have a problem with that...not the owners.
Glad you enjoyed the in depth research!

Or not until ST of 2008.
