The New York Mets failed for the third straight day to clinch the NL East title at PNC Park when the Pittsburgh Pirates finished off an unlikely sweep Sunday with a 3-0 win behind Zach Duke.

Pirates have the 8th best record in the majors since the all-star break.
You yankee fans can thank them at the end of the season for that sweep. Sorry SJ

Woodward, Chavez, Milledge, and Stinnett won't be starting WS games if we make it.
The funny thing is that Chavez and Milledge were responsible for 5 of the mets 9 hits. You had to start them to have a chance against a left handed pitcher.

He's a lefty against the Mets. Steve Carlton can shut them down at this point.

As one ESPN analyst (I forget who) stated, this might be the best thing for the Mets. Its certainly a wake-up call. In any case, all this logistically means is that the Mets get to clinch at home!
