I was going to get the PS3 because of the Sony baseball game, but I just found out that Sega hired the led producer from EA's MVP series to help remake MLB2K so it looks like Ill go with that. I downloaded some videos and it looks stunning. I heard it looks better on the 360 than the PS3 too right now.

Everything looks better on the 360 right now....but in time the ps3 is supposed to catch up and surpass the 360....i'll wait till they actually do till I trade in my xbox for a ps3...if I ever do. Gears of war is just stunning to watch for sure.

NBA 07 (by Sony) is the only TRUE 1080P HD game out there right now and it is REALLY nice looking... shorts and jersey move like real life, they sweat, I swear they made it look nearly real...

Gameplay was ehhh at best though...

Wait untill the new Metal Gear comes out for PS3...

Nope 720p, still looks great but my buddy did this deal at PC Richards (i think) where he bought a 1080P sony TV and that was how he reserved his PS3... looks really nice...

Still though, even in 720P the picture is stunning, and the optical audio is really nice.

How big is your buddies TV because I am looking for a HDTV in the 32" range that supports 1080p and I cant find anything. Seems like only the larger sets support it.

How big is your TV? And isnt 1080i better than 720p or does your set support both?

My TV is a 32" JVC
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7725688&st=jvc+hdtv&type=product&id=1138087885398

It supports 720P and 1080i

P=Progressive (720 Pixels on the screen at all times)
I=Iterlaced (540 pixels every other frame)

1080i is better for non action shows/movies and still things
720P is better for video games and action as it refreshes the whole image every frame

There are some "non-name brand" 1080P TV's less than 40" but as for the bigger names its mostly 40" and up

Thats a Sony 40" 1080P (my buddy has the 46" version)

720P was good enough for me and I had a coupon so I got that JVC for just under 1k with the 3 year extended warranty. I love it, its a great TV... just be warned with widescreens regular TV kinda sucks....

Cool man, thanks. I was looking at this samsung from best buy which is more expensive than your JVC but I dont see a big difference between the two. They both support 720p and 1080i, pixels are the same, the only thing the JVC doesnt mention is the contrast ratio. The samsung is 4000:1 which is pretty sweet.Maybe if you have a moment you can check it out and tell me if there is any difference.

I was deciding between the two myself actually...

There is no real standard with contrast ratio, each company measures it differently. So its hard to compare by the numbers... the best way is to go into the store and look, pick up the remote and mess with the setting...

The contrast on my JVC has been great, looks good in games and movies... they have Standard, Dynamic, Cinema, Video game as options... you can also tweak it manually...

Hope that helps... IMO the Samsung isnt worth the extra cash, and I heard it had some problems supporting newer HDMI versions...

Well first of all, I dont go by website with no sources for their info run by a teenager trying to make money off of Google Ads... lol

Seriously though... The Xbox has been out for 14 months VS the PS3 for 2 months... and the PS3 isnt even released worldwide yet... PS3 already passed the 360 in sales over in Japan (of course)...

Sony still outsells the 360 with the PS2, I dont see the first Xbox accomplishing what Sonys last Gen console is...

Sony owns the video game industry, they are on top overall and they will come out on top in the generation of consoles as well...

Wait until the PS3 is at full production, released worldwide, and gets its first year of frimware updates...

They have a DVR/TIVO function coming in 07' and also will be upgrading the FREE online gaming to be near the level of LIVE...

I like video games as a whole, and if I could own both I would... I cant so PS3 is where its at IMO... if you can own both I suggest that instead...

You cant get "pinched" for having a mod chip... just say you bought all of the games and then backed them up... its perfectly legal to back up your collection and then sell your collection....

I know the mod chip is legal, but copying games then getting rid of the discs is not legal and I have tons of games on my HDD and no discs. Even if you buy the games, back them up, then get rid of the discs its still illegal. You need to maintain the disc. If by some bizzarre chance I got in trouble i wouldnt have any proof that i bought the games.

I know its a far-fetched scenario but I think i can sell it more privately so ebay is the last resort. I may just take the chip out and sell it regularly.

Put an ad in your news paper... "Xbox w/ Mod chip" Once someone contacts you tell them how many games they are getting pre-installed. Should be able to sell it.

What the differences between plasma, LCD and DLP. I found a 56" inch Samsung 1050p DLP on Amazon for only 1699. All the reviews say its a great TV but part of me is saying a TV that big for that price that supports 1080p is too good to be true.

DLP isnt a type of picture, its just a chip for rendering the image on projection screens...

LCD
Plasma

From: http://www.cnet.com.au/tvs/0,239035250,240036500,00.htm

What advantages does LCD have over plasma?
It's not all doom and gloom for LCD though, as it has the edge over plasma in several key areas. LCDs tend to have higher native resolution (http://www.cnet.com.au/hometheatre/tvs/0,39026023,40057142,00.htm) than plasmas of similar size, which means more pixels on a screen. If you're a true high-def junkie who's keen to see every pixel of a high-res 1080i/p image reproduced pixel-by-pixel (providing you have a source that high, of course), then LCDs are the way to go.
LCDs also tend to consume less power than plasma screens, with some estimates ranging that power saving at up to 30 per cent less than plasma. LCDs are also generally lighter than similar sized plasmas, making it easier to move around or wall mount.

LCD pundits also point to the fact that LCDs have a longer lifespan than plasma screens. This was true of earlier plasma models, which would lose half of their brightness after more than 20,000 hours of viewing. Later plasma generations have bumped that up to anything between 30,000 and 60,000 hours. LCDs, on the other hand, are guaranteed for 60,000 hours.
You might have also heard that plasmas suffer from screen burn in, an affliction not as commonly associated with LCDs. Screen burn in occurs when an image is left too long on a screen, resulting in a ghost of that image burned in permanently. Newer plasmas are less susceptible to this thanks to improved technology and other features such built-in screen savers, but we still hear anecdotal reports here of burn-in with new plasmas.

Which is better value for me right now: plasma or LCD?
If you're in the market for a big screen television -- and we're talking 42-inches and above -- then we'd suggest plasma as a safe bet. Plasmas give you more bang for your buck at the big end of town, and while LCDs can give you better resolution, the price difference is currently too wide. However, if money's not an issue and you want the sharpest image in town, then a large LCD is for you. At the smaller end of things (15" to 36" TVs), LCD is the only way to go if you want something slim and tasteful. And the best thing is that LCDs are getting cheaper all the time.

LCD is the way to go resolution wise, Plasma TVs are nice beucase they are usually big... while bigger LCD's are more expensive, you get what you pay for...

Plasma is fading anyways and LCD will own the flat screen market...

If you have the space, save some money and just get the DLP projection TV...

Also, no matter how much we pick apart one type... they all look sweet in HD regarless..

Yeah basically, its just a rear projection TV... you know the ones you see at Wal-Mart for like $600 bucks? They are the same as that but with slightly better stuff and the DLP chip for a better picture...

They are just simply cheaper to make... you can find some killer sales on them...

A Plasma or good LCD will be better than a rear projection tv. That is why you have the price difference.

It really comes down to space. If you want to hang it on the wall I would still go with Plasma. Plasma used to have some issues (Burn In, Picture life). But with the new technology these are no longer concerns.

If space isn't a concern a rear projection tv will still look plenty nice. The best thing to do is go to a store and look at them side by side. Pick out a few models that you like and then price shop online.

OK I will admit it to you now,.... I am Bias against Plasma... :) I think they are over-rated, they run hotter, dont last as long, can still get burn in, and use more energy.

So I found a good link for you to compare LCD-DLP

http://www.plasmatvbuyingguide.com/lcdtv.html

Ironically its at a plasma website so Im sure you can find some plasma info there too...

Regarless my opinion is always going to be get DLP if you want big and cheap, and go LCD if you want medium screen and slim size.
