Not strange at all! I'll put it this way. I grew up on an Island (which is also a Continent) with a population of 12 million. That is less than NY State.

In 2006 Australia cracked the 20 million mark. Isn't that smaller than NY State, Texas & California?

Filmed the opening in NYPD's Traffic Control building, a converted stables on 31st Street that's still in use today. The videow as originally intended to be much more extensive NY at Christmas, but Matt Dillon, who plays the cop in the opening sequence, made the mistake of trying to go drink-for-drink with Shane McGowan-as did everyone else on the shoot. The whole cast and crew was too sheetfaced to film anything. So their original plan was totally scrapped for a "concert" shot rather than a narrative.
