The New York Mets are chasing more than Barry Zito at the winter meetings, closing in on a trade that would send pitcher Brian Bannister to Kansas City for young reliever Ambiorix Burgos.

He reminds me of Alan Mills. Young power righty who throws gas but has some control issues. He's definitely a player who needs some grooming but he has the stuff to be lights out. He clearly had a terrible year but at his age it's far too early to write him off. He'd be fine in a mop up role for now but not a guy I'd bring in and "rely on"

Burgos: Guy how has loads of potential, throws gas (100+) and was rushed by the royals. Peterson Project (See...Oliie P.)

Bannister: AT best a #5 pitcher with mets, had a lot of other players to jump before he would pitch.

The guy is only 22 years old and throws hard- that is something you can always try to work with- young with a live arm

I think that Minaya sees the market for middle inning relievers, views it as prohibitive, and will make tradeds for young players that project to that role for the future.

I think the smartest teams in the game will begin to project and develop their own middle innings guys.

Not a bad comparison. I vagely remember Mills. He would be a similar type.

Good job.;)

It is so outrageous now, that this may be the only way to play. Put the $$$$ into the Farm System.

Not a real fair comparison IMO. Mainly because Benitez had control issues with the ball, and with his emotions. To my knowledge there hasn't been anything this kid has done to this point that would suggest he's a head case. JMO.
