View Full Version : Lilly Signs 4 yr deal w Cubbies Smurf 12-06-2006, 09:25 PM Thank god. AirForceJetFan 12-06-2006, 09:32 PM I would have liked the Yanks to have signed a proven Red Sox killer but this tells me Pettite is coming back to the Bronx. 124 12-06-2006, 10:18 PM I'd rather give a 1 year contract to Dandy Andy... we'll see how this works out for Troll & his Cubbies. The Troll 12-06-2006, 10:30 PM We still need another starter, but this is a great start. madmike1 12-06-2006, 11:56 PM We still need another starter, but this is a great start. LOL so the Yankees giving Andy Pettitte a 1 or 2 year deal is a horrible move but the Cubs giving Lilly (who isn't CLOSE to as good as Pettitte) 4 years 40 million is "great." Dude you are the biggest homer ever. kloogy 12-07-2006, 01:00 AM I'm so happy he didn't sign with the Yankees. mbn007 12-08-2006, 08:29 AM I'm so happy he didn't sign with the Yankees. Same here. This has "Carl Pavano" writen all over it. haggis 12-08-2006, 08:34 AM Same here. This has "Carl Pavano" writen all over it. Disagree. This is not an NL to AL move and so I think Lilly should do fairly well. Pavano, Brown, Beckett, Johnson, Clement were all NL to AL moves and they got torched. Mavrik 12-08-2006, 10:20 AM Lilly did fairly well with the Jays, but I don't know if 40 million was well spent on a pitcher like him. I would probably have likened him to a 4 year 28 million dollar deal at the most. The Troll 12-08-2006, 11:46 AM LOL so the Yankees giving Andy Pettitte a 1 or 2 year deal is a horrible move but the Cubs giving Lilly (who isn't CLOSE to as good as Pettitte) 4 years 40 million is "great." Dude you are the biggest homer ever. I'm just glad the team is spending money. In year's past, we would have signed Mark DeRosa and Gil Meche and called it an offseason. BTW, I'll only lay claim to being the biggest homer ever when I post that Will Ohman is better than Mike Gonzalez. madmike1 12-08-2006, 11:54 AM I'm just glad the team is spending money. The Troll 12-08-2006, 11:56 AM Spending money for the sake of spending money = bad idea. When you haven't won a championship in 100 years, you have to try SOMETHING new. madmike1 12-08-2006, 12:00 PM When you haven't won a championship in 100 years, you have to try SOMETHING new.How about not being reckless with your prospects and signing players that are WORTH the money they got? The Troll 12-08-2006, 12:08 PM How about not being reckless with your prospects and signing players that are WORTH the money they got? WORTH the money? You mean like Carl Pavano and Jared Wright? madmike1 12-08-2006, 12:10 PM WORTH the money? You mean like Carl Pavano and Jared Wright? What does that have to do with anything? The Yankees aren't doing that crap this year or any more since Cashman took over.. Those contracts are reasonable compared to what teams are spending this year. The Troll 12-08-2006, 12:13 PM What does that have to do with anything? The Yankees aren't doing that crap this year or any more since Cashman took over.. Those contracts are reasonable compared to what teams are spending this year. What does it have to do with anything? I was pointing out that the pot happened to be calling the kettle black. Have you paid any attention whatsoever this offseason? Have you seen the contracts that are going to pitchers? If Schmidt gets $15 million a year and Randy Wolf gets 8, why is 10 for Lilly so much of a stretch? madmike1 12-08-2006, 12:17 PM What does it have to do with anything? I was pointing out that the pot happened to be calling the kettle black. Have you paid any attention whatsoever this offseason? Have you seen the contracts that are going to pitchers? If Schmidt gets $15 million a year and Randy Wolf gets 8, why is 10 for Lilly so much of a stretch?Just because the Yankees have made mistakes in the past that means i can't say anything about stupid signings now? Thats BS. Everyone killing the pavano deal is 2nd guessing it. Their were 5 other teams what would've given him 40 million and he got hurt. there is no way to predict that. That was just bad luck and Wright won 11 games last year for 7 million. Just because everyone else is overpaying and giving out stupid contracts doesn't mean you have to. Case in point = The Yankees. GimmeShelter 12-08-2006, 01:00 PM When you haven't won a championship in 100 years, you have to try SOMETHING new. No need to apologize Troll.........Yankee fans critiquing other teams spending remains hilarious. This was a horrible FA pool talent wise with the exception of 4 or 5 players(Sori was one of them). If I am a Cub fan I am very happy with the off season to date. GimmeShelter 12-08-2006, 01:11 PM The St. Louis Post-Dispatch says that free agent Jason Marquis is believed to be close to signing with the Cubs. The Cubs are seemingly the only team that's displayed any real interest in him since the conclusion of the season, though that probably would have changed now that the better pitchers are disappearing from the market. If Marquis joins the Cubs, he'd likely be the fourth starter behind Carlos Zambrano, Ted Lilly and Rich Hill. Mark Prior and Wade Miller would be the leading candidates for the final spot in the rotation. Bingo. At least they're doing something and not talking about how great the rotation would be with a healthy Wood and Prior. Think about it Troll. One year ago we had Herm and Dustmop and going nowhere. The Jets are better. The Cubs will be better. I'm still not sure about Lou, but I like the Cubs chances better this year than I did last year. madmike1 12-08-2006, 04:26 PM No need to apologize Troll.........Yankee fans critiquing other teams spending remains hilarious. IN NO WAY am i saying that spending money on FA's is a bad idea for ANY TEAM. This is a question of WHAT players you choose to give money to. I hear ya Mike.....just think the Cubs didn't have much choice in that they had to get some bats and IMO, at least two SP's. To me there was no standout SP so it's just various opinions by all of us on who signed the better pitcher. mbn007 12-12-2006, 12:47 PM Disagree. This is not an NL to AL move and so I think Lilly should do fairly well. Pavano, Brown, Beckett, Johnson, Clement were all NL to AL moves and they got torched. You mis-read me. My opinion was that the Yankees signing Lilly would be the same as signing Pavano: Overpaid, injured, ineffective. |
