During the war they were the Army's air wing. Was your dad on a B-52? We need to dust those babies off and put 'em to good use in the Middle East. My dad was drafted in 1958, so he lucked out. My grandmother had two brothers who served in the Pacific theatre, during WW2. They were both Navy officers and served with the SeaBees (construction builders). My mothers brother was a captain in the Marines, during Viet Nam. Two of his brothers were drafted into the Army but didn't have to go to Nam. In fact, they never left NJ. :p Pearl Harbor was the day of Infamy. faba 12-07-2006, 09:58 AM Faba, I think they didn't officially call it the "Air Force" until after the war. He was lucky not to have to go into the heat of battle Funny thing though after leaving the Air Force he never wanted and did not until he passed away get in another airplane. jetheelz 12-07-2006, 12:14 PM My grandfather survived World War II and fought for over 2 years. I am lucky enough to have inherited his medals when he passed. Thanks to all who served and those who currently serve. I don't think mere words can show my thanks, but it's the best I can do. On another note, I was watching the news this morning, and they had a small 30 second reminder about Pearl Harbor..then proceeded to about a 5 minute story about the First Lady wearing a Red Dress at the White House last night for some gala...I think it's sad that something as historic and pivotal in American History gets overlooked. Can't Hackett 12-07-2006, 02:09 PM My father was in the Navy and was on a destroyer that was escorting the carriers that left Pearl Harbor on December 5. Lucky for me. Thank you to all the service men and women. |
