Picked up a TomTomGo 910 a couple of weeks ago and already can't imagine not having one. The thing got me from my house to a base two hours south of here without a hitch. It was my first time driving on the highways in the UK and this thing is going to make the transition to UK driving a whole lot easier.

My Dad has one in his car and I swear it is like big brother watching me.

He is down in New Zealand and left his car (Lexus is250) at my place and I have been driving it once in a while.

I get off the highway and within 3 seconds it displays "ramp." Freaky!

I have a friend who has one. We used it when we were at a conference in Florida last winter. They're amazing, but I wouldn't use it enough to justify the cost.

If you have a laptop, you can get a Delorme (Do a "Google search" for it) for about $100.00 ($80.00 on sale) It comes with the mapping & tracking software, the GPS unit, USB cable. You can program it from your home address & to where you want to go & it tells you when the turns are coming up. It gives you your Longitude, Latitude, & how fast you are going.

So, if you have an old laptop, this is a "cheap" alternative.

I don't have one, but it's on my Christmas list. My brother in-law has one, and he loves it. It would definately help me get from job to job (I am in construction).

You do realise the UK government are monitoring all those things so they can track you to see how much you've driven?

Yeah, the GPS thing, I don't know, it all gives me the creeps. The internet gives me the creeps, as a matter of fact. It really does. For real.

So, how much does it cost roughly? Hehe.

I don't have one, but a friend here has two. He loves the TomTom, says it's way better than the other (don't know which brand). We tried to use it driving up in the Alps and no matter what button you hit a string of A or 1 would pop up. He got it through work, so they are supposed to fix it.

If they really want to know they can just call me and I'll tell them. I'm not really trying to hide how many miles I'm putting on my car while I'm in the UK.;)

I have the Garmin portable. I really use it mostly for directions and long trips, though it has other cool features, like finding shoppping, restaurants, attractions. It's nice so that the missus can take it out and plug it into the power port in her car as well.

I use something like that. It's called male instinct and a good sense of direction. It saddens me to see that many of my fellow male Jets fans seem to have lost that inherant trait.

I kind of feel the same way, but they are kind of nice when you are in a country where nobody speaks your language and you can hit 4 other countries in a weekend-and nobody speaks English there either. Plus, with gas at 1.25 Euros per liter it is expensive getting lost. Never used one in the states, except to show off when my boss loaned me her car.

Hehe, true, true, but the occasional driving in circles for hours at a time instead of asking where we went wrong is also very satisfying.
