View Full Version : I Got the trade for the Yankees
Green Jets & Ham 12-09-2006, 02:29 PM Arod, Randy Johnson {Both BIG Pinella Guys} and Pavano .. for Carlos Zambrano and a Nice Prospect
Then the Yankees sign Roger Clemens and Shea Hillenbrand to play 3rd Base
STARTING 5
=========
Carlos Zambrano
Chein-ming Wang
Roger Clemens
Andy Pettitte
Mike Mussina
The new Japanese Guy can be the 6th MAN who can keep that spot warm for Roger Clemens till he comes on board in June, then he can move to the pen and be the primary insurance policy for injuries
This also sets us up for 2008 and beyond with Zambrano, Wang and Phillip Hughes being the TOP 3 to anchor the rotation into the future .. all we really have to concern oursleves with going forward would be 4th and 5th Starter types {i.e. Japanese Guy, aging Moose or Pettitte} to fill out the rotation with a young and authentic 1-3 at the top
Lastly, I know it sounds like a lot to give up, and it is, two starters and the likely All-Time HR King is a ton to give up for one SP {and a prospect}, but this particular SP is a bona-fide flame-throwing ACE in his prime, the missing ingrediant, and its not just a NOW MOVE either, it gives us the best chance to win the World Series NOW and in the forseeable future with Wang and Phil Hughes as well
But why would Pinella make this deal?
He wants to be THE GUY who broke the drought with the Cubs and this gives him the best chance to accomplish that stated mission as well, with a couple of "HIS GUYS" anchoring the deal .. he plugs Arod in at SS and his offense becomes lethal in the N.L. {Pierre, Amaris, Arod, Bell, etc.}, the Unit {like Roger} can still excell verses most N.L. lineups, and even Pavano can still be a servicable middle of the rotation SP in the N.L.
I think its worth a shot .. Arod would probably wave his no trade to reunite with Pinella, the Unit would probably do likewise to face those weaker-lineups in the N.L., and Pavano has no say in the matter whatsoever
Again, not JUST Zambrano, but Zambrano and a Nice Prospect
Ham,
There is no team in the world that would take both RJs contract and Pavano's. Yes they will both expire soon. But that is a LOT of dead money.
AirForceJetFan 12-09-2006, 03:43 PM As great as it would be to dump two worthless starters and post season choker making roughly 45 million combined, it would never happen.
Gainzo 12-09-2006, 03:49 PM Ham: Hillenbrand is a bigger clubhouse cancer than ARod. No one likes the guy.
There is a reason he is on his 4th or 5th team right now.

Yanks have already offered him 1 yr 5mill......he wants 2.
Ham, how bout the Cubs offer the Yanks Kerry Wood, Mark Prior (Big Torre guys) and Jaques Jones for Wang and a nice prospect?;)
P.S. Pierre is a Dodger and not sure who this lethal Bell guy is.

If it were the NBA people would be jumping at it. Anything to get those expiring contracts!
Blackout™ 12-09-2006, 11:25 PM i dont think we need zambrano, i can just imagine him melting down against the sox and throwing tempter-tantrumes all over ESPN the next morning
The Troll 12-09-2006, 11:27 PM What a great trade for the Cubs. Randy Johnson AND Carl Pavano?
Holy ****, where do I sign up?

LOL!!!
An upper tier prospect. Can't miss. You are getting 2 hall of famers in this trade.
Ham has got Zambrano on the brain for sure. I thought we went through this whole exercise a couple month's ago. Z isn't going anywhere, even for the overly generous offering on the table. Hendry had some sort of brain clog that kept him from seeing what an a_s_s hat he had for a manager up until the overdue and unfortunate formal sh!tcanning of D. Baker esq. His recent angioplasty has also removed this clog so hopefully there will be minimal bonehead moves in the immediate future, unless he should suffer recurrence.
Look for Z to get even better as his current manager will, I'm sure, tactfully work with him on his emotions which have served to hinder his abilities when the free spirit Big Lebowski management style was in place.

Seriously both Zambrano and Marquis are reasonably legit PH options on days they are not pitching.

I love you guy, and love all the stuff you post, but A-Rod will re-write the record books before all is said and done.
That guy is not bringing me only Zambrano. Z is a great pitcher, a true ACE. But this is perhaps one of teh best position players to ever play the Game. I need more then a starting pitcher, even one like Zambrano.
Sorry, no deal.
Sharrow 12-11-2006, 05:32 PM Isn't Zambrano a free agent next year anyway? Why trade for him? I think it was madmike who was making the case this last season about not trading for bullpen help cause they would just sign Scot Shields this offseason. Except for the fact that Shields won't be a free agent until 2009, its still the same concept, right?
