It is not just the insane dollars he gets, or the length in years for the stars (???) that he gets. He gets some fabulous perks included. Brown, whom you mentioned, received 3 tickets to all home games, a chartered flight up to 15 times during the season from LA to his hometown, and back, as well as a rented car for all road trips, a private suite in all hotels on all road trips, and a bunch of other stuff. I do not recall them all, but I remember that the value of these perks was an issue when he was traded to the Yankees.

why do general managers fear him and give in to him though? he doesnt look like he knows what hes talking about half the time

You don't have to give in to him, but you don't want to piss him off either.

There will come a time, when he has a FA you covet, and you want to make sure that lines of communication are open.

Steve Phillips told him to pound sand on the Rodriguez deal (rightly so), but the manner in which he did it created frosty relations with Boras for a few years. You can't afford that.

If you remember when Bernie was up in the air about returning to Ny or go to the Diamondbacks ...... Boras was pushing for him to go to AZ. Bernie had the final say as all players do, and chose to stay in NY. Boras is the devil, and I hate him. He does do his job though. Ultimately, the player makes the choice. Brown's contract and perks put this guy up there. No matter what team you are, you will have to deal with him.
