Suppan's agent said they're going to wait until after Zito has signed to accept an offer. If the Mets somehow don't get Zito, they're going to have to get Suppan or they'll be s.o.l.
Take a look at their rotation next year and you'll see why.
They better have their #2 option ready in Suppan when Zito spurns them in January or February.

Umm, why not? The man was lights out for a team that won the WS. If STL is New York's biggest threat for the NL Crown next season, then why not steal their # 2 starter? The market is so unbelievably weak for SP this season, and its looking more and more like the Mets will need to look in-house for their pitching, from guys like John Maine, Oliver Perez, Mike Pelfrey, Phillip Humber, etc.
Plus, I'm really not counting on Zito. He is NOT at all a good match for NYC and I would much rather try to get Mark Mulder.
Either way, the Mets will need to get SOMEONE off the market with Pedro hurt. Otherwise, the rotation next season in April will likely be Glavine, El Duque, Maine, Perez, and a question mark. Not good.
