View Full Version : Bodies, The Exhibition
jetophile 01-05-2007, 11:23 PM This show had a lot of buzz, and I've been wanting to check it out for quite a while. Interesting stuff, if you like the macabre. Well, it is macabre by its very nature, but being an artist, human anatomy is pretty interesting to me. Still, I felt a vague sense of 'sorry', because they were, after all, real folks with emotional lives at one time. At first I thought maybe they were prison pop, indigents; but essentially they're people who have donated their bodies to science.

The show is running until the end of February, I do believe. 11 Fulton Street, corner of Front Street. Tomorrow the Guggenheim, a Picasso exhibit I've been wanting to check out. I'm in an 'e-cafe'. What the frig. Back on Sunday for the Jets PO Game. GO JETS!

saw this exhibit-- some of those chicks are really hot, not a single porker in the bunch.
AirForceJetFan 01-06-2007, 09:36 AM I saw it in Florida and thought it was awesome. Some of it looked like it was straight out of a horror movie.
Lots of controversy surrounding this exhibit though. Rumors that the exhibit originated in China and nobody knows if these corpses came from people who wanted their bodies donated to science or not.
My dad took my 7-year old and his 9-year old cousin, and they loved it. If you're a kid that likes creepy things, what's not to like? And they were reprimanded by the rent-a-cop for touching the bodies. What does a little kid know? But my dad, a cop for 25 years, got into an argument with the guy because they both denied it to him because he believes his grandsons.
My son is making his 1st confession later this month(as prep for 1st communion), and he's told my wife his worst secret sin is lying about touching the bodies.
vanDoug 01-06-2007, 11:18 AM Just saw a similar exhibition called BodyWorlds 3 here last Sat.
I think this one originated in Germany.

Anyway, kind of interesting and kind of weird seeing inside the body like that.
Somebody found the chicks hot????

That's hilarious..just hope he tells the story the right way as opposed to just "father, I lied about touching the dead bodies"
jetophile 01-06-2007, 02:02 PM My favorite scientific fun fact of the whole exhibit (Central Nervous System section):
'Men's brains account 2% of their body weight. Women's brains account for 2.5% of their body weight.'
There's a couple standing next to me reading the same thing, and the woman turns to her boyfriend and says, "AHA! I always knew I was with stupid." HAAAAAAAAAAH. New Yorkers, gotta love 'em. Hehe. :)
Verde 01-06-2007, 02:45 PM Hey jetophile.. what type of arteest art thou?
(I just knew it!!)

Gunther Von Hagen!
That guy had a bunch of tv shows over here where he was cutting up corpses in front of an audience, utterly compulsive viewing.
Even if he did look like that Toht fellow from Raiders of the Lost Ark...
16G-MONEY 01-08-2007, 10:11 AM I saw Bodies last week. There was nothing at all artistic about it, but it's not like I was expecting it to be. It WAS an incredible exhibit about the body, though. It was well worrth seeing. I felt I had to distance myself from the fact that they were all real people at one time. I had to force myself to view them as almost sculptures. That was tough to do in the"fetus" room, however. That was somewhat disturbing.

I wish I was as practically smart as a good handful of my friends when I was in school. Anyway, black ink never gets old. Drawing the human figure to stay sharp without the comfort of an eraser, I like the bold failure and the successful arrogance of that. Eh, so the results bite 99.9% of the time; but when it doesn't, a good night it is. Nothing like a long line of flow when transcribing a model onto the impermanence of bad paper. :)
The main stuff is ever evolving. How's your beautiful Doberman Rescue Dog? Updated photos of the droopy mouth is in order.
As to to the rest of the exhibits I went to, more tomorrow. I'm too ramped up on top shelf chocolate to think.

Learn what, yo. My BRAIN is way bigger. Way bigger, yo. Then again, we're both Jets fans. The great equalizer. HAH.
