some more stuff re our new coach ;
Daboll leaving team to join Jets By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff | February 15, 2007 The Patriots will have a new wide receivers coach for the first time since 2002. Brian Daboll is leaving the team to join the New York Jets' staff, according to NFL sources.In addition to working closely with the Patriots' receiving corps, Daboll helped coordinate New England's passing game, often managing the personnel that changed regularly in the team's ever-evolving attack. Daboll landed his first NFL job in 2000 when Bill Belichick hired him as a defensive coaching assistant out of Michigan State based on the recommendation of former Spartans coach Nick Saban, one of Belichick's close friends. Two years later, Daboll was promoted to receivers coach.In January, Belichick credited Daboll for working with an almost all-new group of receivers in 2006, noting that he was "showing them extra film and taking extra time with each guy" while incorporating their strengths into the team's system. He said Daboll had done "a great job." The move to one of the Patriots' top rivals will reunite Daboll with former Patriots defensive coordinator Eric Mangini, now the Jets' head coach. Mangini praised Daboll in September prior to the first meeting between the Jets and Patriots."I think that Brian does an outstanding job with receivers," Mangini said at the time. Replacing assistant coaches has become a regular occurrence for the Patriots in recent years. Defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel (Browns head coach) and offensive coordinator Charlie Weis (Notre Dame head coach) left after the 2004 season, while Mangini, the defensive coordinator in 2005, went to the Jets after that campaign.

Maybe Mangini is going to groom this guy to be the next OC?
It's only a matter of time before Brian Schott gets a Head Coaching job. |

This is the reason supposedly:
There has been much confusion over the past few days regarding why and how the Jets were able to pilfer Pats assistant coach Brian Daboll, who most recently coached the team's receivers and previously was a defensive assistant.
Per a league source, Daboll wanted to be the quarterbacks coach, and head coach Bill Belichick declined the request. Coincidentally, Daboll's contract was expired. And so he left.
