1978: Weeb Ewbank, who guided the Jets from 1963-73, including the Super Bowl III win, and was the only coach to win world titles in both the AFL and NFL, was selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
1983: After some serious chicanery by Don Shula, where he left the field uncovered in a rainstorm, the Dolphins win the AFC Championship 14-0. The Mud Bowl, as it becomes known as, featured 12 turnovers, with AJ Duhe having three of these, including a 35 yard return for the insurance touchdown.
