  • 1978: Weeb Ewbank, who guided the Jets from 1963-73, including the Super Bowl III win, and was the only coach to win world titles in both the AFL and NFL, was selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
  • 1983: After some serious chicanery by Don Shula, where he left the field uncovered in a rainstorm, the Dolphins win the AFC Championship 14-0. The Mud Bowl, as it becomes known as, featured 12 turnovers, with AJ Duhe having three of these, including a 35 yard return for the insurance touchdown.
