Background and College career
Mirer was born in Goshen, Indiana, on March 19, 1970. He graduated from Goshen High School, winning national high school awards. He then attended Notre Dame from 1989-1992 accumulating a 29-7-1 record as starter including 3 bowl games and set numerous college records.
Mirer's time in the NFL
Pre-Jets career
Mirer was drafted with the second overall pick in the 1993 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. In 1997 he had been traded to the Chicago Bears. 1998, he was off to Green Bay, who then traded him to the Jets in 1999. Noticing a pattern here?
Jets career
The Jets had come off a great season in 1998, and the general concensus that 1999 would be their year. But. In the opening game of the 1999 season, Vinny Testaverde hurts his Achilles, and in steps Mirer. Can you hear that crashing sound? that was the dreams of Jets fans, as Mirer ensured that the Jets would endure a nightmare opening to the season, only ending when Bill Parcells finally decided enough was enough, and benched him for Ray Lucas against the Colts. The collective sigh of relief at the Meadowlands that day as people realised Mirer wasn't starting was rather loud to say the least. At the end of the season, Mirer was released.

Post Jets career
The 49ers picked Mirer up for a couple of years as back up to Jeff garcia, then in 2002 found himself as 3rd string QB for the Raiders. His final season in the NFL was at Detrot, where even Matt Millen felt Joey Harrington was better.
