Background and college
Born January 26, 1980 in Denver, Colorado, Woolfolk attended Thomas Jefferson High, where he finished his career with 171 tackles and 19 interceptions. A three-year starter at Oklahoma, Woolfolk transitioned from a freshman wide receiver to a full-time cornerback as a senior. He saw time on both sides of the ball during his sophomore season, playing sparingly on defense. But due to injuries in the secondary, Sooners coaches asked Woolfolk to focus more on defense heading into his junior year. He responded, and by his senior season he was playing exclusively at cornerback. Woolfolk totaled 21 starts on defense and 17 on offense, and finished with 56 receptions for 836 yards and six touchdowns as wideout and three interceptions, seven passes defensed and 54 tackles as defensive back. Played in three consecutive bowl victories, including Orange Bowl triumph over Florida State his sophomore season to win National Championship.
Before the Jets
Woolfolk was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the first round (28th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft. However, he only managed to play six games as team’s nickel cornerback as aresult of various injuries. He managed 19 tackles, one interception, four passes defensed and seven special teams tackles on the season. 2004 was another injury hit season, though he managed 10 games He was inactive for five games before being placed on injured reserve December 31. 2005 saw Woolfork set new career highs in games played (13), starts (7), tackles (52), passes defensed (7), fumbles forced (1) and one fumble recovered. Also added one quarterback pressure and one interception on defense and recorded three tackles on special teams. He still missed three games with a hamstring injury. In 2006, Woolfolk played in 10 games, primarily on special teams. As a result of a serious hamstring injury, Woolfolk was placed on IR and in August 2007 agreed a settlement with the Titans, who waived him.
As a Jet
Wolfork is married to Jaime, who played centerfield for the softball team at Oklahoma. They met in the Oklahoma athletic department’s weight room in 1998.
