NY Jets Lose To Dolphins 31-27

The NY Jets made their only appearance on Monday Night football this year and lost a heartbreaker to the Miami Dolphins.  The difference in the game?  Suprisingly enough it was the Miami Dolphins offense.  The Jets had no answer for the wild cat and the Dolphins controlled the game by rushing for 151 yards in total on 36 carries (4.2 yard per carry average).  QB Chad Henne played like a veteran and avoided making any mistakes.  He was solid especially down the stretch and he ended the day throwing for 241 yards (20 for 26) with a passer rating of 130.4.  Looks like Miami doesn’t miss Pennington all that much right now.

The Jets on offense?

They played well enough to win.  Thomas Jones still looks sluggish 13 carries for 42 yards.  Leon Washington still doesn’t seem to be getting enough carries 10 for 44 yards.  Mark Sanchez and Braylon Edwards seemed to make an instant connection as Braylon stepped right in with several big plays (5 receptions, 64 yards, 1 touchdown).  David Clowney had his best regular season game with 4 receptions for 72 yards.

The defense simply talked bigger than they played tonight.  Are they guilty of reading their own press clippings?  Time will tell but today they looked overmatched against a 1 and 3 Miami Dolphins team.  Calvin Pace seemed rusty and the memory of Darrelle Revis, Kerry Rhodes and Jim Leonhard chasing Tedd Ginn Jr into the end zone after a long td pass will haunt Jets fans for awhile.

Next up is the Buffalo Bills followed by the Oakland Raiders.  We will see how the Jets like the taste of humble pie, if they can digest it and learn from their mistakes there is plenty of football left to be played this season.
