JaMarcus Russell Update

Several media reports last week had the New York Jets interested in signing recently released QB JaMarcus Russell.  The thought was he could be a project and if they got him working hard they could have a very talented backup on the roster.

What a difference a drug bust makes.

Russell was arrested today for possession of codeine syrup which is a controlled substance.  He did not have a presciption for it.  As a result he is now off the Jets radar.  According to Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News:

JaMarcus Russell effectively eliminated himself from becoming a Jet any time this millennium with his latest bonehead move. The free agent quarterback was arrested at his Alabama home today for possession of a controlled substance during a police investigation.

As the roster stands today, Kellen Clemens is the back up quarterback.  Although there have been plenty of rumblings about bringing in Mark Brunell.
