Woody Johnson On Tim Tebow

Our friends from Fox Business News just let us know that they spoke to NY Jets owner Woody Johnson.  The show will air today at 4pm, but here are some quotes that we found interesting.

On how new recruit Tim Tebow is doing with the New York Jets:

“We’ll know. He comes back this Monday, on the 15th. I am very excited to see what impact he’s gonna have. He is what he is. He’s true to his beliefs; he’s not afraid to tell you what he believes in. I think he will be a very positive influence in the locker room and I think he will help us win a lot of games.”

On whether signing Tebow was mostly his decision:

“If it’s a good decision, if he turns out to be a great player, I will take full accountability for that.”

On whether he powwowed with head coach Rex Ryan about the decision to sign Tebow:

“That whole week we powwowed about it. Rex and Mike make those decisions.”

On whether he has already seen any business results because of Tebow:

“Not really. Jerseys aren’t really our main line of business. Our main line of business is winning games. I expect if we do well, we will continue to sell. We’re pretty well sold out on PSLs despite what you read about.”

On whether the team is sold on Tebow:

“We’ll find out. the team will get together for the first time on Monday, so we’ll see how that works out. From what I hear from the people who played with him in Florida and the Broncos, he is going be well-liked.”

Here is a thread from our Jets forum on this topic.  The business side of things was definitely a factor when they were considering trading for Tebow.  That makes Woody’s commentary on Jets PSLs sales extremely interesting.
