Jets Roster Moves – Release OT Willis and QB Kinne

The Jets have made a few roster moves by releasing offensive tackle Ray Willis and waiving undrafted rookie quarterback G.J. Kinne (Tulsa).

Willis was a long shot to make the squad since he has not played in the NFL since 2009.  Was signed by the Miami Dolphins

and then head coach now Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano last training camp but did not make the 2011 opening day roster.  Sparano’s ties to Willis most likely afforded him an opportunity with the Jets but it is doubtful he will get picked up by some other team.

Kinne put together some impressive numbers during his three years at Tulsa (732-1195 – 61.3%, 9472 yards, 81 TD, 32 Int, 144.8 QBR) but was hovering on the roster bubble with Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow and Greg McElroy seemingly having the top three quarterback spots.  It wouldn’t be surprising if Kinne gets a chance to make another team’s roster or practice squad.

The Jets now have 88 roster members so they can obtain two more players since the maximum size is 90 until late August when teams need to trim down to 75.
