New York Jets Ticket Preview

Editorial by TiqIQ

The 2013 NFL schedule is out for all to peruse, which means it’s time for TiqIQ to breakdown the New York Jets schedule and see what’s in store for them this season.

After a complete disaster of a 2012 season that included the Tim Tebow circus, a butt fumble and Darrelle Revis and Santonio Holmes succumbing to knee injuries, pretty much anything the Jets do in 2013 will have to count as progress.

Fans would probably prefer if Mark Sanchez wasn’t the starting quarterback, though, but unless David Garrard can turn 27 again, they might not have a choice. If that’s the case, the Jets will have to lean heavily on some unproven running backs and an inconsistent defense. However, if their draft goes as planned, perhaps their fortunes can change rather quickly.

With that said, let’s take a look at a few of pricier New York Jets tickets for 2013, as well as some cheaper value buys at home:

Jets Top Priced Games For 2013

New York’s most expensive home game of the year comes when the Pittsburgh Steelers roll into town. The average price is $404, with a get-in of a reasonable $108. It’s a big game anytime Ben Roethlisberger is on the docket, and if the Jets are going to be competitive in the AFC, they should learn a lot very quickly from this matchup

Coming in second, surprisingly, is their home date with the division rival New England Patriots. Fans can expect that to rise to number one eventually, but sitting at number two, it still tells us this rivalry is till alive and well. It’s been all New England lately, but the Jets seem to turn it on at least once a year when they take on the Pats, and you know they’ll be coming to play at home. Just like the Steelers game, this matchup will go a long way in telling us how good the Jets are, and if they have a shot at chasing down the AFC East division crown in 2013.

Coming in third is the New Orleans Saints, who at the very worst bring some explosive play making and hopefully a lot of points. For Jets’ fans sake, the other hope is that Mark Sanchez (or whoever is behind center) can keep up with Drew Brees and make this a barnburner to be talked about at the watercooler, and not a blowout. Either way, this one will be worth the admission.

Jets Top Value Games For 2013

The Browns aren’t exactly a major draw in any regard, so it’s no shocker that they rank dead last for the Jets’ home games in 2013. That’s the thought on paper, anyways. In reality, Cleveland has gotten much more competitive over the past two seasons, and brings some fine talent in Trent Richardson and Josh Gordon. If Brandon Weeden can get his mind right, this could be a very interesting (and cheap) game.

Number two is the division rival Buffalo Bills, which is a little surprising, considering the Bills and Jets have played a few quality games in recent memory (except for week one of last year). The Bills bring a new quarterback and a hungry defense into the Meadowlands to try to snuff the life out of Mark Sanchez and New York’s hopefully spirited offense. But it may not be so easy, as the Jets tend to play pretty well at home and these teams are very evenly matched. Fans should anticipate a hard-fought, close game, and they’re getting it on the cheap.

The Oakland Raiders out-rank the Browns and Bills in something. That’s amazing all in itself, but here they are, third to last in New York’s home games. They don’t offer much in terms of a show or talent (or anything), but the good part is the Jets are the better team and they’re pretty likely to get a win here. If for nothing else, that should get Jets fans to pay the reasonable ticket price for this matchup.

The Jets still have Rex Ryan leading the way, which gives them potential whether Patriots fans want to admit it or not. It all comes down to how they draft and whether or not Mark Sanchez is under center (or can play better). Their defense still has some talent and they can compete from an overall standpoint, but improvement is definitely key to them staving off the Bills and Dolphins to compete with New England in 2013.

I started JetNation in 2005 and have been a New York Jets season ticket holder since graduating from high school. My dream is to see the New York Jets win the Super Bowl. Until then, I will be right here on JetNation writing, dreaming and talking NY Jets football.
