Practice? We Talking About Practice?

The New York Jets are sitting at 2 and 8 and in the words of Allen Iverson, “We talking about practice”.  The Bills have missed a few practices this week due to the snowstorm in Buffalo. So we are talking about practice, that’s what we are talking about.  A few Jets chimed in on practice, now that the game has been moved to Monday night.

New York Jets game moved to Detroit on Monday night.

On Buffalo not being able to practice…

I’m pretty sure they’re not upset about it (laughter). I can promise you that. Being snowed in is difficult, it is hard, but at the same time they are probably going to be fresh. They’re not going to go out and really put a strain on their bodies so that could be a concern. For the most part, I really don’t know what to think about it.

On if practice is overrated…

No, practice is not overrated. It is not overrated at all. I think the most important thing you can do is practice. You have to get a feel for timing, new concepts, new things you may be doing and I think it is very critical. The last thing you want to do is miss a week of practice and come and try to play. I’m not saying that it can’t be done, but I just know how important it is.

On how many days of practice an NFL team needs to prepare for a Sunday game…

I’m not sure. Ideally, you’d like to have some time to work your game plan on the grass, on the practice field. Having a Thursday game, stuff like that, we’ve gone into games where you just have walkthrough. We’ve played on Thanksgiving before, we’ve played Thursday games and during the week all we had was just concentration and walkthrough. And you still feel ready to play, it’s just that you haven’t had the timing that you normally would get on the grass if you will.

On whether he can think of situation where only one team has been able to practice before a game…

Well, usually you’re really prepared to do things, like there’s a contingency plan. I was in Baltimore and we had a hurricane come through and (we) never intended to fly out to San Diego for a week, but we did. So, you make adjustments and that’s the way it is. If there’s an advantage, I hope there is. I don’t know if that’s the case or not. And not making light of it, I think with the way everybody has their playbooks now on iPads and all that, you’re able to get the information to your players and I think that’s obviously a good thing. So, you don’t really miss a whole lot that way with the new way things are set up. But, do I think it’s better to have practice time? Clearly.

Willie Colon

On if it is a big disadvantage for Buffalo missing two days of practice…

I don’t know. I think right now I am worried about us and our business and our approach and trying to beat them on Sunday. However they handle their business is how they handle it. Right now we have to be ready to go, coming off a win. We have had some time off and we have to get going.
