Jets Hosting WR/KR Kyle Williams

By Glenn Naughton

Connor Hughes of USA Today is reporting that free agent wide receiver/return man Kyle Williams is set to meet with the Jets who are seemingly determined to upgrade their return game.

A four-year veteran who has missed each of the last two seasons due to injury, Williams has 47 receptions for 574 yards and 4 touchdowns as a member of the 49ers.  Williams has also been a member of the Chiefs and Broncos but injuries prevented him from logging any statistics.

It’s Williams’ history as a return man who has likely generated interest from the Jets who have struggled mightily on special teams in recent years.  Returning punts, Williams has had  21 returns for 170 yards, an average of 8.1 yards per return.  Statistically a downgrade from Jeremy Kerley who owns a career average of 9.3 yards per return.

As a kick returner, Williams has 28 returns for 673 yards, an average of 24 yards per attempt.

Should the Jets add Williams, he would join a pair of other free agent additions in Dri Archer and Jeremy Ross who have both been brought in to compete for the same return role in an effort to add more playmaking ability to the Jets stagnant return game.
