Schefter: Geno to Start on Sunday vs the Ravens

The first six games have been rough for the Jets this season. They stand at 1 and 5 and new problems seem to be occurring each week. You can’t fix everything at once, but one way to send a message to the team is through a quarterback change. After a magical season last year, which saw Ryan Fitzpatrick win 10 games and throw for almost 4,000 yards, he has struggled this year. He has 11 interceptions and only 5 touchdowns and the offense isn’t putting up points, in the last few weeks especially.

Ryan Fitzpatrick 2016 Stats

Geno Smith came in late in the game against the Cardinals for a series that ended with an interception. After the game Todd Bowles indicated he was just getting Geno some reps. All that seems to be changing though, Adam Schefter is reporting that the Jets will name Geno Smith the starting QB for the game on Sunday vs the Baltimore Ravens.

Geno Smith started the first two years of his career and he has been a backup since the broken jaw he received courtesy of IK Enemkpali. Has Geno matured as a QB will be the question that stands front and center on Sunday. The Jets have four quarterbacks on the 53 man roster and Todd Bowles indicated that he is open to getting Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg playing time this season.

Geno will have to show that he has improved, avoiding turnovers will be crucial if he wants to make this audition a long term thing.
