Tank Shows up a Year Late as Jets Slated to Pick Third

Last season was supposed to be the year the Jets stumbled to a two or three win season that would net them a pick in the top three of the NFL draft, allowing them to grab their future franchise quarterback.  As it turned out, the Jets managed to win five games to land in the sixth spot, forcing them to trade up to select USC quarterback Sam Darnold.

Now, with a quarterback on board, the team looks to be on their way to a tank-like 3-13 finish as they sit at 3-9 with no “winnable” games appearing to remain on the schedule.

Should things finish the way they sit now, according to tankathon.com, the Jets would pick third overall, behind the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders.

With that third pick, the Jets would likely grab an edge rusher, or trade down with a QB needy team but still remain in the top 10, allowing them to recoup some of the draft choices they parted with in the deal that helped them get Darnold.  The weeks will roll on and the draft board will update, but we’d be surprised to see the Jets draft position move anywhere but up.
