Titans Rookies Could be Issue for Jets on Both Sides of Ball
While there are several key matchups in this Sundays game against Tennessee, two Titans Rookies will be of particular interest to the Jets. It’ll be one on each side of the ball in defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat and right tackle JC Latham.
Having just surrendered 147 yards on the ground to running back Jordan Mason, the Jets will now have to do battle with Latham along with right guard Peter Skoronski as the Titans will look to pound the ball to see if the Jets can stop it. Latham was fantastic in his rookie debut and his PFF run block grade of 82.6 reflected what we saw on film.
Up the middle on defense, T’Vondre Sweat, a first talent out of Texas who fell to round two, was even better. The 360 pound sweat collapsed the pocked several times while showing off the impressive swim move that made him such a force in college. If Joe Tippmann isn’t at the top of his gam on Sunday, it could make for a long day for Aaron Rodgers.
Here are some other key matchups to keep an eye on:
S Amani Hooker vs QB Aaron Rodgers: If Rodgers doesn’t incorporate a wider variety of targets, look for Hooker to be the defender who takes advantage of the QB consistently honing in on wide receiver Garrett Wilson.
LB CJ Mosley vs QB Will Levis: Entering just his second season under center for the titans, veteran linebacker CJ Mosley will be the one responsible for the Jets chess match as he makes adjustments on defense to counter Levis. Having struggled last week in
RT Morgan Moses vs Edge Harold Landry III: Moses didn’t have his best performance in week 1 and things won’t get any easier in week 2. Landry has 22.5 sacks over his last two full seasons and picked up another in week one. With Aaron Rodgers’ mobility lacking, look for the Titans to try to turn Landry loose off the edge.
Slot Michael Carter vs WR Tyler Boyd: Carter has been nursing a high ankle sprain that took him out of last week’s game. If he’s active and gimpy, look for Boyd to see some targets in key spots be it against a gimpy Carter or Brandin Echols who will be first up of Carter can’t go.
