As the Jets prepare for their season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers tomorrow afternoon at MetLife Stadium, they’ve added wide receiver Tyler Johnson to their 53-man roster.
Johnson will take the place of injured guard Alijah Vera-Tucker who will miss the entire 2025 season after tearing his triceps in practice just a few days ago.
Adding Johnson should come as no surprise given the fact that he was one of the first names mentioned by GM Darren Mougey when meeting with the media about the roster. Johnson being on the practice squad at the time was a clear indication that he wouldn’t be there for long.
The move gives the Jets six wide receivers on the active roster to go along with four tight ends. Just who the team activates for kickoff remains to be seen.
Quarterback Justin Fields will undoubtedly like the addition of Johnson as the pair appeared to build a bit of chemistry throughout training camp.
