The Jets are heavy underdogs entering a short week on the road. It’s pretty understandable.
New England is 7-0 (6-1-0 ATS) since Week 4. They’re top 10 in scoring offense and defense, whereas the Jets are among the 10 worst teams in both departments. The Patriots don’t have to travel for Thursday’s game on short rest.
However, both of New England’s losses this season were at home. All three of their losses against the spread this season came at Gillette.
Also, it’s a Thursday, and Thursday Night Football games tend to be tighter than expected. Six teams have entered Thursday Night Football favored by more than a touchdown. Only one of those teams actually beat the spread.
The Jets, who are 2-1 (2-1-0 ATS) against the Patriots since the calendar rolled to 2024, can keep things tight. New England only has three wins by double figures this season. New York has faced plenty of tough teams already this season.
Roll with the Jets to beat the spread on Sunday.
Both of these teams have loved the over lately. The Patriots have had four consecutive contests find their way over the total. Five of the previous seven Jets games went over the total, including the two recent wins.
When they clash on Thursday, a New England offense that’s second in rush attempts will face a Jets defense that’s 21st in yards allowed per carry. That doesn’t bode well on paper, and when the Patriots drop back to pass, they’re averaging the second-most yards per attempt.
An interesting battle will be Justin Fields and a potentially Garrett Wilson-less Jets offense facing the Patriots’ shaky secondary. New England is 22nd in yards allowed per pass attempt, and it’s a major reason why seven of their 10 foes have scored at least 20 points. A promising sign is that the Jets have 87 points in their three away games this season.
Giveaways are a concern for each team and could lead to short fields, too. The Patriots have 12 giveaways in 10 games and are tied for 19th league-wide. The Jets are tied for 17th with 11 in nine games.
This one feels like it’ll find its way over the total.
