After placing quarterback Justin Fields on IR for the final two games of the season, the Jets have claimed former Raiders safety Christopher Smith to take his spot on the 53-man roster.
A former Georgia standout, Smith turned pro in back in 2023. He has appeared in forty games for the Raiders, but has never started a pro game or intercepted a pass.
The safety spot has been quite the merry-go-round this season as Aaron Glenn’s group has dealt with a rash of injuries and poor play. Last week we saw undrafted free agent Dean Clark get significant playing time as the team is without Tony Adams and Isaiah Oliver. The team also elevated Jarius Monroe prior to last week’s game but could now turn to Smith to add more depth.
