They keep succeeding, so why stop backing them now?
The Seahawks are riding a nine-game winning streak that includes four consecutive victories against the spread. Seattle led the NFL in point differential this season. In their last three games away from home, including a win in Levi’s Stadium that decided the NFC’s top seed, the Seahawks outscored their opponents 77-22.
Although the Patriots have impressed defensively this postseason, the offense has been much shakier. Drake Maye took five sacks in all three victories, and this Seahawks defense finished in the top 10 in sacks this season. He has also thrown two interceptions and fumbled six times, with the defense recovering three of them.
Seattle’s defense already survived a Rams offense that had seen them three times and, by many metrics, was the NFL’s most dangerous this season. Los Angeles’ head coach and QB also have a Super Bowl title already, so that was a more experienced group than New England’s.
For Super Bowl LX, we’re trusting Seattle’s defense to be the most dominant unit on the field. They will make the big plays that lead the Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory by at least five points.
In line with the spread pick, our faith is in the respective defenses on Sunday.
The Rams have been the only team to exceed 16 points against the Seahawks since Thanksgiving. Only one other team even managed more than 10 points in that span.
New England only allowed 26 total points in their first three playoff wins. In their past five games, the Pats only allowed one team to score more than 10 points.
This feels like a game where limiting explosive plays will be the primary objective for both defenses. Sustained drives should be difficult, but will also chew the clock when they happen.
Anticipate a defensive battle this Super Bowl.
As mentioned earlier, Drake Maye has taken 15 sacks this postseason. He was the fourth-most sacked QB during the regular season. The Seahawks’ defense finished with the seventh-most sacks and should take him down on Sunday.
Although there are plenty of candidates to record a sack on Sunday, DeMarcus Lawrence is our pick. The 12-year vet finally has a shot at a ring, and he’s certainly making the most of it.
He recorded a sack in three of Seattle’s previous four matchups, all against playoff teams. That includes both postseason matchups.
Merely 60 minutes away from finally winning it all, he should make another big play to help the Seahawks wrap up a stellar campaign.
